A few scores posted thus far. I will try to keep this thread just as a score update. However, anyone who actually attended games, feel free to give commentary.

Glenvar-0-9-Northside

Dan River-0-1-George Washington: I would certainly not look at a loss to a 4A school by one as anything other than promising.

John Battle 2-0 Ridgeview: Without knowing anything about Ridgeview, I can't say much on this result.
James River-5-0-Alleghany: Good win for the Knights. If they can pull those wins against LB again this year, they may point out for first in conference. Nelson County should be a win as well. This will get pretty interesting for those matches against Giles.

Allegheny graduated a lot last year and are down, JR lost 5 starters last year but may actually b better this year. Friday LB game will be a better indication of things. Don't know anything about Nelson County.

Also Chatham lost 2-6 to Tunstall recently. Can't make much of a comment yet, but will allow for some after Tunstall and Martinsville square off.

According to the school website, Madison Co. beat Page Co. 11-10; then lost to 5A Orange County 12-1 the next day.

So is Floyd the real McCoy or is Grayson floundering?

Also last night:
Radford-0-5-Northside: May be a tough season for the Bobcats with a tough schedule.
Giles-4-1-Galax: Pretty big win for the Spartans, but at the end of the day...it is against a 1A team.
George Mason-8-0-Rappahanock County: Who would have guessed this result?

Floyd is good. But Grayson county is not. They play Patrick County Thursday. We will see how they fare against them.

Graham-1-0-Richlands: These are rivals so we won't read too much into it except that it was a fun match to watch, but I think later in the season both of these teams are going to be struggling.
JR-1-0-Nelson: I literally know nothing on Nelson. Another win by JR though, and that is what they need.
Abingdon-9-2-Lee: I only post because many 2A schools way west play these folks.
GW-7-0-Marion: Looks like another rough year ahead for Marion soccer.
Gate City-1-4-Honaker: Gate City is not the team they once were. Honaker is no slouch, but...dang!

George Mason beat 2A rival Central 4-1 last night.
Also Lord Botetourt beat Franklin County 1-0. Franklin is 6A...
I only mention this because James River plays LB on Friday. If they pull that win, the West may be a very interesting scene this spring.

Depends on which team shows up, JR/Ghany will be ok, JR/Nelson might not be good. Nelson wasn't a bad team JR just looked flat and out of sorts. Hoping it was a early wake up.

Young teams will do that. We see a lot start to believe their own hype (feel a little too confident) which makes them complacent. Then you run into a team that outworks you even with less talent. Ask anyone who met VA High last year.

A few scores from yesterday:
Floyd-3-4-Patrick County. This game was a good pickup for Floyd. A 3A opponent early on, so even the loss is beneficial before opening conference play. We'd all better keep an eye on those buffalos. One thing to watch there is teams that suddenly break into success usually have little depth. How will they fair when they are forced to use that bench more?
Fort Chiswell-3-2-PH-Glade Springs: Soon to be 2A FC got the first win of their season last night.
Alleghany-10-0-Covington: Soon to make a ill-designed move to a 2A district Ghany got a win over fledgling program Covington.

I think that is a good point about Floyd and their bench. I am interested to see how their bench fares against the starters. The Grayson game that I watched, they sent in some decent bench players who seemed to match the intensity of the starters and then some who definitely did not. FC should be watched this year - could be interesting.

Only a few games played on Friday.
Central (WISE)- 2-1 -Gate City: This is a bit further west of where I normally get, but I can safely say things aren't looking all that threatening from GC.
Giles-11-0-Narrows: This "rivalry" needs to end. Both schools would be better served playing other people. Narrows does have a JV team now though, so maybe there is hope on the horizon.
James River-4-0-LB: This one was better analyzed already in Onceaknights thread. Just want to keep the scores going on here.

Looking for results from Dan River v. Tunstall tonight, if someone would pass along.

Still trying to get all of the scores in, but here are a few.
Floyd-5-1-Grayson: I'm not going to go too far into the deep end with Floyd yet. Grayson still hasn't managed a win this season.
Glenvar 3-0 Parry McClure: They get the win over 1A rivals after a few tough losses to Northside
Richlands 4-2 Marion: Marion seems to be abysmal this season, so I wouldn't get too excited for the Tornado

A few scores from Last night.
Graham 8-0 Tazewell: This rivalry hasn't been a very good one since like 2008. But a good result for the Gmen.
Martinsville 1-2 Tunstall: Season opener for Mville. Honestly this isn't a terrible result. They will improve as that tough schedule progresses. However, they had better get some points going to make sure they aren't a 3 or 4 seed.
VA High 3-0 Battle: A good result. I am looking forward to seeing Virginia High this Thursday at Graham.
Giles 3-1 Galax: Not a bad idea to open the season with one of the top 1A teams in the state. Good tough wins in both games for the Spartans. That match with James River on Monday is the real deal.
Dan River 5-2 Tunstall: This is a result from Monday, but dang... Dan River started last season like a tornado as well. Let's see if they can keep it going.

Sounds like a good game.
Also going on last night.
Glenvar 4-0 Bath Co.: Sadly, Bath hasn't had a quality program in ten years or so.
Bruton 2-1 Washington and Lee: Bruton (who made a lot of noise last year) are quietly making moves through the regular season.
George Mason 2-3 Mnt. Vernon: Now, again, don't get too excited. This is a loss to 6A squad. However, I'm starting to think there are chinks in the Mustang armor this season. I'll bet by post season play those will be far fewer though.

A few scores to round out the month.
PH-Glade Spring 4-1 John Battle
Mason 3-0 Warren
Giles 13-0 Narrows

Also from Thursday Graham came from 1-0 down to beat VA high 3-2. The game was in Bluefield and the officiating was a little more than home-team friendly. I very VERY rarely mention officiating (check my post), but this time it was warranted. VA had chances to do it though and just could not capitalize. Graham has a tough week now with Richlands and Giles. Both are at home though...I certainly hope to see another crew there tonight.

That DR/GW game was played in sub-40 degrees weather and whipping winds!
