Martinsville 17 Bassett 10

Wow, what a win for the Bulldogs. Dangerous team in Martinsville

Was a great game. Tied at 7 at the half. The Dogs kicked a 39 yard fg in the 3rd to make it 10-7 and scored again with 6:30 to go in the 4th to go up 17-7. Bassett drove down and had it inside Mavahi's 10 but we held and they had to kick a fg with 2:30 to go to make it 17-10. Bassett tried an onside kick and recovered it but they had touched the ball before it went 10 yards. Dogs had to get a first down to run the clock out and they did. Biggest crowd at Dan Greene Stadium in about 25 years. These boys came together and really over achieved this year and everything beyond this is just icing on the cake. Props to Coach Martin and his staff for getting the very best out of the team this year. Hopefully we can make a little noise in the playoffs but if not, this has been a great year for the team, school and community

Coach Martin should be in consideration for State Coach of the Year honors regardless of how the Dawgs finish in playoffs. 2019 they go 0-10, 2020 they do not play, 2022 9-1 and co Piedmont champs as a 2A program playing with 4 and 3A clubs. Regardless on how the postseason shakes out the Bulldogs bite is back thanks to Coach Martin. Have had the opportunity to meet and know Bobby when he was the head coach at William Fleming and he is one of the good ones

Having watched Martinsville twice on NFHS, this team brings lots of speed. They are just fast all around and quick. Just plays fast, lots of kids just flying to the ball with solid closing speed. The defense Martinsville has is their workhorse. It appears it has improved from game 1 through game 10 and those kids are playing with lots of confidence. Martinsville is not going to be an easy out. If they lose in the region, it's not going to be a blowout. It will be a very close game because their defense is just to good in my opinion for teams in Region C to pull away. I think most fans, and maybe even Martinsville fans and players no longer see themselves as "improved" or "a good future ahead." I think most now see them as a legitimate threat to win Region C this very year. That's how I see them.

The team has good speed, especially on D. Not much size but have some ball hawkers that really get after it. They are young in the lines but have alot of upperclassmen in the skill positions. Coaches are getting max effort out of the kids, hopefully we can continue for a few more weeks. Alot of people don't realize how big of a win that was for the Dogs last night, nobody in this area were giving Martinsville much of a chance to keep this game close much less win. We made just enough plays on offense to win and then let the D make plays. Fairlawn, did you see the interception at the end of the 3rd quarter? That probably was the play of the year for the defense.

Yep, unbelievable. Just great athletisicm and a nose for the ball among the defense. Martinsville is smaller up front than most, but they make up for it with quickness. I've seen lots of Martinsville d lineman who look like they might get pushed off the ball just out quick the offensive lineman (go around him laterally) and get pressure or make the tackle. It's one thing to be undersized, but when you are undersized and very quick, that quickness up front can make up for it, and it has with Martinsville.

We got a little size he rotates in at tackle on D, one is 6'5" 390 and another about 6'2" 295 but most of the time he goes a little smaller and quicker.

Congrats to the kids and Coach Bobby Martin! Those kids earned it and Coach Martin is one of the good guys and deserving of this. Good luck in the playoffs for an extended run, however, do not let anything taint what you have already accomplished.

Martinsville has a top quality person in Coach Martin who is leading them. Coach Martin is one of the last old school coaches around. He incorporates faith, love and integrity over anything football related and those kids have bought in. Let’s go Dawgs!
