Mathews defeated Rappahannock 42-18 in Warsaw tonight spoiling the Raider homecoming celebration way worse than the light rains. Somewhat surprising after Rappahannock shutout 2A W&L recently 20-0.
Mathews' Stuart Anderson almost single handily defeated the Raiders. Anderson played QB, Safety, Punter, all special teams, maybe even RB and WR as well at times.
In addition to most likely leading the team in tackles, Anderson had a 43 yard TD run, a 91 yard pick 6 TD, a 2 point conversion, a 25 yard fumble recovery TD, another interception, another run TD, and had a 45 yard TD brought back by a holding call. Last play of the game, a big hit on Rapp runner to keep him out of end zone, of course, by Stuart Anderson. I'm pretty sure I got all that correct. Wow, hard to have a better individual performance than that plus his team won big.
This season, Northumberland whipped Mathews at Mathews like 45-12. I don't think the Indians have defeated Rappahannock in like 4 or 5 years. I have a good feeling that streak will soon come to a end.
Lancaster also recently whipped Mathews 47-8. Could be a long season indeed for Rappahannock and W&L....
