Good ol Max Preps! What’s yall thoughts? This is a hot topic in the Phoebus circles for obvious reasons but preseason polls ain’t never won anything so I’m not even that concerned.

Top 4 is interchangeable. Phoebus should be #1 since they’re the 2x champs in C4. I’m high on all 4 teams but 5-10 just takes ALL Max Preps credit away. King George at 5 is laughable. It’s a 95% chance that they won’t even field a team this year.

The only rankings I pay attention to are On3 & CalPreps. They are way more on point than Maxpreps. Idek how Maxpreps calculates their rankings .

An algorithm utilizing dubious values.

The most accurate year to year are the Va Preps ones that Matt, Danny, and company put together.

An example of “dubious” values would be using King George’s past records when we all know they have been decimated and will be darn lucky to make the playoffs. Towards the end of the season the algorithms have better info and are more accurate. But, 2 1/2 months before the season starts they are not much more than a glorified guess.

Man, that’s INSANE. I know there’s obviously some hard feelings between Lunsford and a portion of the KG community, but it seems crazy that the entire program would implode just like that. What’s the story there?

Bo been on this since the beginning and I been given some clarification from people in King George . It is that bad and the program is in shambles. It’s a lot of frustrated people in KG right now. From being perennial 4B contenders to the bottom of the battlefield in one offseason is mind boggling. Vern and his coaching staff were SEVERELY UNDERAPPRECIATED and it’s going to show now. I still don’t understand how you can botch this so badly from an administration point losing that HC. The kids will suffer and that’s the sad part… The KG roster is GUTTED this will not be the same King George Foxes and it might be awhile before they get back

The players have quit or transferred I had this confirmed and yes it’s quite a lot like Bo has been saying since the beginning. And before we even start this doesn’t “ smell right” all those kids lived in King George and now parents don’t want them apart of this mess . Again a lot people don’t know how important that staff was to those kids and it’s showing with all them gone. Just a sad situation. This is being relayed to me by multiple parents I’m not making this up

Not speaking on where kids are transferring too or why they quit. It’s very well known why and I don’t wanna talk bad about anyone

Yeah, pay there is straight-up bad. Had no clue they lost their principal and AD. I’ve seen some of the good side at KG with parent support, but I have no doubt the ugly is very ugly. It’s evident to me that there is a sense of entitlement with a segment of their population. I’m not a fan of wealthy entitled parents, because of what kind of kid that breeds.

All in all, it just sucks for that program. I’ve had to leave a job with hard feelings toward school leadership before, but did my best to leave the program intact for the next guy. Sounds like that was never going to happen with all the issues swirling around at KGHS. Sucks for the kids, but I’m not gonna assume it was Lunsford who made that happen.

There’s also a lot of crap on KG’s end that won’t come out cause Lunsford isn’t that type of guy.

I’m a big fan of the concept that sunshine is the best disinfectant, but I appreciate Lunsford is just going to devote his effort toward Spotsy and let that sleeping dog lie.

Oh you’re good bro! I always know that your posts are in good taste. You’re very knowledgeable on how these divisions work. You have to take the good with the bad and if you work in education, you’re always gonna be on some side of a losing battle. I think in KG’s case, years and years of neglectful leadership and nepotism is catching up with them. I’m happy that Lunsford and his staff are with a division that will celebrate them instead of making their jobs harder. They are some of my closer friends and I’ll always be rooting for them to succeed.

I'm sure it didn't take much convincing to get Vern to come to Spotsylvania. That is his alma mater after all and he has great relationships with key people there and is well liked. He has a great AD to work with as well so that's always a good thing. As for other members of the administration...meh...many of them are transient with no local ties so I'm guessing some like the move and others are ambivalent.

However, this move will be looked back upon as being more strategic and important when it comes to timing. Why? He could have easily rode out this season at King George and then left for Hartwood High School/Falls Run High School (Name TBD for the new Stafford County High School but it will be one of those) to start that program in 2026. That division pays more. And many of the most competitive coaches love the allure of starting up a brand new shiny program of their own.

I wonder if any Class 4 coaches in the area or even in the state will go for that one when positions start to open there.

But nonetheless, I hope things work out well for Vern. I will say there is still quite the buzz in the region about his move. There is excitement abound. New position coaches started working with players during the offseason and the morale of program is higher now than in quite some time.

They clearly are going to Spotsylvania along with some players from Courtland, Chancellor, Riverbend, and Massaponax. Those in county school kids probably already lived in the Spotsy zone so it will be an easy transition for them.

They aren’t going to Spotsy though. Bo just said where the kids are going. One kid followed them. So that’s not true at all. This is how rumors get started lol

Their best player transferred to Indian River in Chesapeake. That staff isn’t out here recruiting like Fredericksburg haters make them out to be. We caroline also got a WR from KG. Was told around 10 kids have transferred but again Bo is right about where there kids are going. If 10 kids went to Spotsy they would have got hayfield. Again if Spotsy is gaining kids back where they belong I see no issue here. Those other schools have done it for years
