My Region A Rankings

This might sound ridiculous, but since participation and enrollments are dwindling, could 7 on 7 football be considered for smaller schools?

I personally wouldn't mind seeing that. Travel costs would be horrible. And they would have to petition the VHSL to play up. We know how fickle the VHSL has become about that cute little golden nugget. Bruton SHOULD be in the TD. Poquoson would rule the roost. They would beat everybody like KW does. Pains me to say that, but it is what it is. Elliot Duty does an amazing job with that bunch of kids every year.
Elliot Duty is a class act for sure, one of the best coaches around. KW doesn't dominate in everything and Im not opposed to them staying in the tidewater. Would the VHSL approve them playing an independent football schedule while remaining in the tidewater district? Just a thougt..... Tidewater District has 3 programs that may not survive - Mathews, Middlesex, Charles City. It's not fair to KW to have to schedule those schools every year and then end up trying to find replacement games when those teams forfeit or fold.

King William is bigger than WP, KQ, and CC. COMBINED!

I don't how they would do that. Colonial Beach YEARS ago, did something similar, but they were TINY TINY TINY.

When I used to write game reports for VAPREPS covering the Bay Rivers District, I loved covering the Poquoson games. Elliot Duty is a chess master on the sideline. It killed me how he could take a bunch of 195 lbs linemen and dominate the LOS ALL NIGHT long.

I feel for Middlesex, Mathews and CC. Community support is also an issue. School budgets are going to come into play really soon. It's going to get worse before it gets better, unfortunately. Isn't fair to the kids.

How is Middlesex gonna have that nice of a stadium and struggle to put a team out?

Ouch...those numbers weren't previously explained. That sheds a different light. And I agree, the year that KW beat K&Q 90-6 or whatever the hell it was, was unnecessary and extremely embarrassing for me personally. However, subs were in and how do you tell kids to laydown?
As a fan of the Tidewater District and Northern Neck, I want to see all of the teams be competitive and injury free each week. KW has been a dominating force in District and Regional play since 1980. It didn't just happen overnight. It started when they 400 students from 8-12...we had 485 students when I graduated in 85. Athletes and great coaching have blessed that program. However....State Championships haven't been plentiful.

KW catches grief because of their enrollment and playing in the TD, geographic misfortune. They can't help that. Playing in a district that is flush with tiny 1A teams does ZERO to prepare them come playoff time. I'm sure they would be happy to drop everyone, save for WP (because of the history and gate) and fill their schedule with high quality 2A, 3A and 4A games....but this archaic District BS is preventing that from happening.
They could come to the Battlefield if they are 3A. Yes, trips to Eastern View and Culpeper County wouldn't be fun and would be long and boring, but they would have a natural next door neighbor rival in Caroline and not be too far from King George, James Monroe, and the Spotsylvania schools. Would provide for some fun and new matchups as well.

But then again, I know the Battlefield would love to stay put with eight teams until Orange County and Louisa County decide to leave the Jefferson. Those two would be welcomed back in a heartbeat.

It's been mentioned here before, but I don't believe KW is dominant in the Tidewater in other sports. If so, apparently football is the only one that receives complaints. Not sure if the Bay Rivers or Battlefield would be a better fit for KW. Battlefield might not be so far fetched as back in the day Varina was a Battlefield member when that district included Louisa and Culpeper.

King William has 700 per the ADM numbers on the VHSL's website. James Monroe currently has the fewest in the district with 965 and is 3A. Would be a good fit if their ADM numbers grew.

But I think those of us who have been longtime fans of the Battlefield are happy that the district has been run well over the years (despite the terrible conference model implemented by the VHSL and by also allowing Orange County and Louisa County to leave along with condoning Culpeper County's bipolar attitude towards the district).

I think King William would be competitive currently to be honest. The would at the very least be .500 in district play and probably in the upper third of the district today even if they remained a 2A school and played a full district schedule in the Battlefield.

Had no idea what the Battlefield's composition enrollment wise. I suspect the Bay Rivers is similar. My post was in reference to travel. I think the Bay Rivers would be a better fit travel-wise but don't see any shift taking place.
