In the opening game of the 8th Annual VirginaPreps.com Classic, the Nansemond River Warriors earned a 62-51 overtime victory over the host J.R. Tucker Tigers using an 11-0 outburst during the extra session.

Nansemond River broke from the gates well early on as they sprinted out to a 12-1 lead en route to a 16-7 first quarter advantage. The Warriors got driving scores in transition from guard Josh Covington and used defensive pressure to build their advantage early on.

J.R. Tucker fought bought in the second half outscoring the Warriors 24-15 to send the teams into the halftime locker room knotted at 51 apiece. Uthman Mumin paced the Tucker attack with seven points in the first half as the Tigers defensive rebounding consistently held Nansemond to one-shot possessions.

The second half looked a lot like the first as Nansemond opened up an early lead before Tucker fought back in a low-scoring period as the Warriors entered the final period up 60-57.

A back-and-forth final stanza saw Nansemond hold the lead for most of the period until Tucker scored seven of the game's final nine points in regulation forcing overtime by blocking a Nansemond River three-point attempt at the buzzer.

Defensive pressure in overtime finally wore down the Tigers who failed to find a bucket during the overtime session as Nansemond River pulled away behind driving scores by Covington and timely free-throw shooting.
