NEW Top Rankings (entering 8-31-17 Games)

GW shouldn't be ranked ahead of Riverheads

You're entitled to that opinion. With all that Riverheads has lost through graduation and what George Wythe - headlined by arguably the best QB at the Class 1 level - I would respectfully disagree. But as we get more data / info and results that supports that, a change could certainly occur in the coming weeks.

I understand that but GW lost several players from transfer and some just not playing from what I've read on here. I guess i would just give the defending state champ a game or two see what they truly have before ranking them below another team but I also understand this is a new year and I can see where you're coming from as well.

With at least 25 QB’s in 1A with better overall stats than these; 104 yards passing, 24 yards rushing, 1.1 passing TD's, .6 rushing TD's, .4 Int’s and 1 fumble per game. Against teams like Sussex, Riverheads, and Galax the numbers tank out. It would be hard to argue he is the best based on statistics.

I will say this in Deacons defense we all know it's not all about stats. He is by far the smartest in game QB I've seen over the past 2 seasons in 1A. His stats are low because 99% of the time we run the ball cause usually it can't be stopped by who we play. But when he does get the opportunity to throw it's usually great results. Yes some QBs do have better overall stats but some play for teams that are air it out all day teams. I would much rather have a leader and a decision maker than a hotdog in the stat department. Just my take.

Just to jump into the QB conversation, there are a couple out east that are fun to watch. W&L has one who is a D1 baseball player that will put up some big numbers this season. With his new head coach being a former D1 QB, I think the sky is the limit. There is another player at Northumberland, who may be one of the best athletes in 1A, who can put a team on his back any given night as well from the QB position.

QB ,s should have numbers based on the number of mistakes made per game . Not so much on pass comp and ect. I think we should look at the bad more than the good . jmo

I would agree Xcross. You would also like them to be the leaders of your football team as well. Ratios have to be considered of course. If a QB is asked to throw 20 times and run 10 times, then sometimes every play isn't going to be perfect. If you are only asked to make sure everyone is lined up and hike the ball on the correct snap count, throw it twice and run it once, well then a single mistake can be costly. Both are important considering the style of play the coach is asking for. More than likely, the QB asked to do more will get more attention obviously.

They take the field tonight... they will win BIG, game will be over midway through the first quarter, then they should resume the #1 spot in next weeks ranking

Edit: referring to Riverheads here
