Big week for NND football - all three games will have impact on the Region A seedings race

Essex travels to CB in an intriguing one indeed (CB won last year in Tapp, I would think that Essex regains its throne this year).

4-2 Northumberland travels to Montross to take on the 6-0 W&L Eagles (should be quite the battle, Indians must play tough especially being away, last year NHS had huge lead at the half, Eagles stormed back and won 21-20 in final seconds of game....)

Lancaster at Rappahannock - (the Raiders need this game to remain in solid playoff contention.)

Big Homecoming weekend for Rappahannock, Football Festivities Friday - Warsaw Fest Parade and I think the HonkyTonk Heroes (Country Rock band) will be jamming Saturday in Warsaw. Small town Americana...

a few more notes-

Today's Richmond Times Dispatch mentions (briefly) both Northumberland and Essex (plus King William).

On the top front page of the sports section, Northumberland is mentioned in the headline for an interesting piece on how 4 brothers for Trinity Episcopal all played for Trinity at the same time for at least one play on offense (at least one was an 8th grader- allowed in private schools). Trinity crushed NHS two weeks ago in Richmond, NHS won last year at home in the Neck.

Trinity also had two other articles today, one about one of their 6-5 B-Ball players committed to ODU.

The other Trinity article discusses their field hockey team is #1 in all of the Richmond area.

The 804 area (Richmond) player of the week was Thomas Jefferson's QB Anwar Wilson- Bradley.

TJ just beat last Friday Class 5 Glen Allen 55-49. Bradley and the article mentions losing to Essex and being disappointed.

That was a strong win for Essex over TJ 38-30.

I have a family member who’s on Northumberland football team who mentioned to me that Northumberland hasn’t beat W&L in 21 years in football wow! Can anyone confirm of this being true ?

Dang, I believe that losing streak is sadly true. W&L has dominated the series for sure.

NHS must stop it tonight and defeat the Eagles to turn the corner for its program. I think that Coach Lewis and his team can do it tonight. It is W&L's homecoming so the Indians must overcome that and mainly, hold on to the dang ball. Win the turnover battle, win the game.

On a very positive note for Northumberland athletics, the NHS volleyball team has won 36 NND matches in a row!!! Amazing streak there going back a few years! (this according this weeks Rapp Times' esteemed NND sports historian Chris Rose). Big game v volleyball power Mathews next week!

Big Football game for the Indians tonight! Should be a good one.

I think W&L is keenly aware of what's at stake in this one!!! Coach Taylor and the staff has put it in motion. All that's left is players to execute

Last time Northumberland beat WnL I believe I was in either the 7th or 8th grade which I want to say 96 or 97. Pawfan will have to help me with this one.

Anyone involved in sports knows how challenging it can be to put an end to such a losing streak.

21 years (games) is a long time to lose to anyone, especially such a close proximity school in your own district. I heard more than a few Indian folks say I just hope we can beat W&L.

Nothing but respect for the W&L Eagles - that is a heck of a streak. Well done.

NHS Nation is very proud of 1st year Northumberland Coach Aaron Lewis, his staff, and his boys on finally ending that steak.

Think about it, none of the current Northumberland players were even alive the last time the Indians defeated the Eagles. Heck, some of the coaches may have not been born yet either ha.

Now, let the momentum keep rolling....

Glad to see them get the win, but they got to go visit a mad CB team next week that gave Essex fits. Enjoy the victory

Yes I agree the NHS at CB game should be very interesting. This game will answer many questions about the strength of both programs indeed. I am looking forward to it!

This will be the Indians' 5th away game in a row against some really tough football teams (Middlesex - should make Region A playoffs -Trinity - private Richmond school, Essex - perennial Group A football power, undefeated W&L and now CB who has taken Top 1A Teams Sussex and Essex to the wire).

Of course, CB is quite battle tested as well....

Great win for Coach Lewis and The Indians Friday night. This program needed a win like this. the biggest win since Northumberland took down Essex in 2011. Hats off to the young 22 year old coach who had his team ready to play. I’m sure Northumberland received a lot of power points for its win last night. Tough game next week with a scrappy Colonial Beach team if the beach can’t contain Palmer who has 7 total touchdowns in the last 2 games with 5 last night it could be a great night for the Indians
