This thread is not meant to slight JM in any way, let’s just keep them out of this entirely. Who do y’all think would win a very competitive Class 2 this year if the Justices were not here (I’m putting Bruton in as the 2A runner up).

Central Woodstock at Greensville
Bruton at Luray
Virginia at Floyd
Nelson at Graham

Assuming the bottom half plays out the same, It would probably have been Graham vs Luray for the state title this year, which would have been awesome. If Central got past Greensville on the road I’d actually pick them to beat Luray in their fifth meeting but don’t think they’d be able to pull it off down there. If anyone has any thoughts would love to hear, just wanted to highlight some of these other C2 teams admits the extremely long JM thread haha

Greensville County in my opinion. I think Greensville has 3 state titles in the last 7 years if you count the Covid year in which they didn't play and no JM in the mix. Many would say, "Luray just beat GC." Yes, they did, at Luray because Greensville can plan on traveling for the state quarters every year because JM is in the same region. Luray hit a shot towards end of regulation to send it to OT which Luray then beat GC.

I've said this many times. I think GC is the 2nd best Hoops program in VA (Class 2) over the past 7 or so years. Of all the teams effected by JMs success and unparalleled play, the team most effected is the one in the same region that doesn't get to even make state title games and also has to go on the road as the Region A 2 seed regularly in the state quarters. There is zero chance of them ever playing a home game for the state quarters or semi's.

I feel like any of the matchups from these teams would be a toss up. Any of them could easily win or lose to the other which is what you’d want in a state championship game.

I felt like the Graham Floyd County game was what a championship game should be like; back & forth anyone could have won. Refs were good, great sportsmanship, really good athletes for both, even playing field.

I am also curious about the changes for JM involve.

Who knows if the rumors are true. No JM talk! Instead let's talk about the possibility that Graham could have won state titles for football AND basketball this season in this scenario!
And back to back competition cheer state championships, state champion in golf…Graham athletics has definitely had a memorable year for sure. The basketball team has five players out of nine who were part of the state championship football team.

JM is a product of years and years of participation trophy wanting people complaining about how it’s unfair that their 1400 student populated school had to compete against schools 1800+. The VHSL gave them what they wanted with 6 classes and did not allow teams like JM to play up like they did pre 2013.

I’ve seen this going around and think it’s a good listen.

Two years in a row JM plays terrible defense in the state game. Odd…

Graham had wide open threes from the 2nd quarter on. To their credit they hit a lot of them.
