It's a shame only 2 teams will advance to region play from this conference! VHSL realignment has really decreased the amount of teams advancing by too many. Previously, you had 4 regions with 16 teams advancing. That's 64 teams which was probably too many. Now 2 regions with 8 teams. I'd love to see an increase to 4 teams from each conference which would increase the state tournament from 16 to 32 teams.

Each region determines how many teams come from each conference not the VHSL. The state tournament only consists of the champions and runner ups from each region (final four for each of the 6 divisions). Each region also determines how teams qualify - some have an automatic birth for regular season conference champion and some don't. Conference 26 may have 4 of the best teams in the entire state.
