Man was it HOT in Greensboro on Saturday at the New Balance Nationals Track & Field Meet..
By noon it was 98 degrees and all that concrete, rubber, asphalt and turf didn't help with the heat!!
The Championship Series Throwers from all over the United States, Canada and Mexico got started with warm-ups right around 3:45 pm with a total of 47 throwers (there were a few no-shows, I think there were 52 scheduled to throw)..
Parry McCluer Senior Thrower, Joshua Fischer was seeded in the 43rd spot entering the event and even though he didn't have his best day of competition finishing nearly two feet off his personal best throw of the year, THE NATIONALLY RANKED FIGHTING BLUE FINISHED IN 29th OVERALL...
That's a respectable end to Fischer's High School career, AND that makes two years in a row that the Fighting Blues have had Back To Back "Nationally Ranked Throwers" to compete and do well.. Last season, PM Senior Thrower K J Cook qualified in both the Shot-Put and Discus events.. Even though Fischer had a stellar season this year in both events setting multiple new "PR's" along the way, in the end he missed the cut off and failed to qualify for the Discus by only a few feet!!
**COOK and FISCHER ARE THE ONLY TWO "FIGHTING BLUES" IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL TO HAVE EVER QUALIFIED FOR and COMPETED IN THE NATIONAL MEET, IN ANY EVENT(s).. These young men have definitely represented themselves, their school and their community well.. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN JOSH and BEST WISHES TO YOU IN THE FUTURE... IT HAS BEEN AN EXCITING PAST FOUR YEARS WATCHING YOU COMPETE...
AND AS ALWAYS, GO BLUE!!!
**FISCHER IS SCHEDULED TO ANNOUNCE HIS DECISION FOR THE FUTURE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS!!
