Ok so as most of you know this season I have been following PM religiously. Next season I will be back in sw Va back home but I would like to show some highs and lows that I've took notice of this year for them. Hope nobody is offended its just what I see. I'll start with the offense coming back next season.
  1. Zack Claytor qb Hes just a sophomore and has a great arm for sure. He can move ok but he needs to take some off of his passes and not fire them in like a fastball. Next season if I were the oc I would throw at least 12 times a game in every game no matter the score.
  2. Marcellius Dawson rb He is also a sophomore. Bright future ahead of him. He needs to work on explosion when he takes the handoff. He is as patient runner that can be good and bad though. He has good size and speed but his frustration can be seen at times. If I were the oc I would place him at the D back or right halfback whichever they call it. Look for huge numbers next season.
  3. Cole Walker db/pr He is very fast obviously. Needs to put on about 10-15 pounds to be able to bump the receivers who are bigger than him. He dances around alot, if he was to pick a hole and explode once he turns on the burner it's over he's gone. Maybe PM would try this kid in the backfield next season.
  4. Eli Wheeler lb A sophomore as well. He is a man to be reckoned with in the middle I really missed him at the GW game. He is a top notch run stopper with decent size at 220. He is one of a few at PM who probably has D2 or possibly D1 potential. Look out for him the next two seasons.
  5. Joshua Fisher de He is a man with size no doubt. Plays lt some as well. Very good speed for the 245 pound range. Put on another 10-15 pounds and work on some defensive techniques he could become a D2 or possibly D1 talent.
  6. Josh Cash dt He has good size as well in the 255 pound range. Weight room, weight room, can't shout that enough. He gave GW line all they wanted but cardio became a factor early in the 2nd quarter. Possibly slim around 240 pounds with some cardio. His ball awareness is top notch. A little polishing would do wonders. Obviously a strong player as well.
  7. Jarred Mason g He has good size as well at 285 pounds. Obviously very strong and finishes his blocks on just about every play I took notice. Once again I suggest cardio and try to get in the 250-265 range. He uses his upper body when he has powerful legs to go with them.
  8. Karl Davis dt/or Davis is very strong I can tell. Cardio and a good workout program to get in the 310 pound range and you have a very good tackle to say the least. Only a sophomore as well I would put him on the left side and make somebody stop it. Needs work on pass protection but a running team like PM it's common.
  9. Tue Wheeler dt Only a sophomore again. Weight room, weight room. He has good speed for a dt but I question his strength against anyone his size or bigger. Decent ball awareness as well. Good size at 255 pounds but needs to get stronger for sure. Possible te in PM run first attack.
  10. Ryan Smith g Smith played undersized all season and done a decent job. Quick off the ball at 180 pounds but finishing blocks could be looked at. A gain of 10-15 pounds puts him around 200 and good footwork, you have a very solid addition to the massive line coming back.
  11. Pass protection, lineman camps, different play calling, cardio, tighter db coverage, and all around better coaching you have a possible contender the next 2 seasons.

Hey Coach, have you heard any more talk about the coaching situation at PM? I know you had mentioned it a few weeks back and the rumors are definitely swirling. I hope Coach Craft is able to stay on. But I also understand making the move to bigger and better things as well.

Have you heard what schools are showing interest in Nelson and Cook?

Very humbling words for some very humble young men.... Several of these kids you have mentioned will ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT make a statement in their last year of High School Football, and there are still a few left that will be REMARKABLE in the next two years.. Aside from our two Senior running backs this year most people really don't understand just how young "The Fighting Blues" are/were this year.. I think our kids had an amazing year considering the fact that we have sooo many underclassmen that have stepped up and done their part.. These kids went toe to toe with the best of the best and won the majority of the battles they were asked to fight.. Hey, you win some you lose some and the fact is we didn't win when it really counted but rest assured "The Blues", still young will be spoken very highly of in the upcoming 2017 season.. THEY WILL BE THE FAVORITE TO BE A STATE CHAMPION... Congratulations to the remaining teams and prayers for all that the season will be concluded without major injuries to any of the athletes still playing in their quest for a CHAMPIONSHIP!

A little early to be self proclaiming anything. I don't know for sure, but I am pretty sure that GW returns a decent amount of players as well. I'm sure Blaster could help us out here.

Really?? I didn't mean to rattle your chain.. I was simply replying to oldballcoach13 and his comments related to his observations of a group of fairly talented "young men" from PM who love playing the game of football., not talking about GW or anyone else for that matter other than PM.. Not looking for a discussion, other comments or to start more bickering.. I think oldballcoach13 is fairly rehearsed in the game of football and I take what he says and see's as pretty reliable information, not to mention the fact that I completely agree with what he mentioned in his earlier post... I am sure GW as does many other fine teams in the state will have several key returning players, I still think PM will be one of the youngest teams to take the field again next year and hopefully they can be as competitive as they were this year.. Good day Sir!

I respect your observation as well as OldBallCoach, yet when you stated "Favorite for the 2017 State Championship" is the only thing I would suggest you slow up a bit on. They seem to be a good team and the future looks bright, but lets finish the 2016 season before we can start anointing the next champ. Good day to you as well.

Point taken however, we are finished this season.. I guess what I should have stated was that PM should be "A favorite not "The" favorite.. See, this message board thing can be kinda fun if we let it! Good Luck to your team as well..

The Red Team is not done and will be better next year ! The young kids coming up are faster and stronger than any I have watched before . Its about time we got some fast kids again ! We seem to find a couple fast kids every 4 to 5 years . Might go up to BV and see if there are any fast kids that would like to win a State Title . lol

And once again, Xcross chimes in with another "Dick move" comment.. Dude, give it a rest already, there are actually some very intelligent people on here that like to talk more football and less trash. I'm sure you are very football savvy/smart and can be overwhelmingly collaborative on several issues but, your cheesy comments to/about others are just too much.. I wish "The Red Team" well.

Any word on who the Blues non-district schedule will look next season? Will they be keeping James River?

Supposed to be picking up Narrows and East Montgomery from what I have heard I think it's still a little unclear, there was talk about dropping James River and Stonewall Jackson but I'm really not sure at this point
I obviously understand the reasoning, but would hate to see JR and PM stop playing. Always feels like a little rivalry game when they meet up on the field.

If Nelson's dad is reading this, congratulations to him on a great career! I was pulling for him to break the record and I know it had to be tough to come up just a little short of the record and of the state championship but you all have a lot to be proud of! Hopefully he continues that success at the next level.

Yea I'm hoping they keep it as a non-district game. Gonna miss you guys if it is indeed over! Lots of great basketball and football matchups over the years.

The coaching situation, well I do believe I was given some very false information. I do not see Craft leaving he has much talent for at least another 2 seasons. I'm not familiar with the jv program and what it holds. I'm a very blunt person and hope I don't rattle any chains with this but I sure would like to see PM mix up the offense some next season. In today's football you have to pass and defend the pass to win, end of story. PM has a gunslinger in Claytor and a returning massive line that with a little work could be mentioned in the mix with GW as far as line play goes. Run first is great but you can't run on first, second, and try to surprise the opponent with a basic pass on third down. Those days are over trust me I found that out in the early 2000's. Spread the offense out, perfect some plays and formations out of the wing t, shotgun, wildcat, stack I, etc. I remember the talks I had with longtime coach Bobby Williams and Coach Ellison who said they live by the run die by the run. PM is capable of having a very potent offense next season but I would like to see a different mentality of the oc for that to happen. Great season Blues. I do need to put this out there as well (some on here have my number and email, some are good friends) but I have no relation to anyone on the PM team or staff as I have been asked. PM is a great school with a rich football tradition it always makes things interesting. Next season I see another district title for the Blues but without more pass offense, pass defense, better play calling, more aggression, and overall united as a team, they will have a short playoff run. Weight room, film, cardio, team drills is a must come Jan 1st coaches.

Galax will only be loosing like 8 seniors! And guess what peoples is only a junior!! Gw will reload like always, they will have almost all skill positions returning Horton will prob move to running back and they will have to replace a few lineman!

Yeah basically all of the skills players are back. And on the line we have to replace Dylan Anderson and Larry Isaac and would've had to replace Jason Jones but after the NW game he didn't play O line anymore. GW will actually be a little better next year. Not much but a little.

Hopefully Essex can be back in the mix with the top dogs as well. A lot of young talent returning from this years team.
