Just opt out of the state tourney and play against teams that can play with them. All this recruiting stuff is sickening.
I would love to see them back in Class 3. JM and Northside had some really good games.Just opt out of the state tourney and play against teams that can play with them. All this recruiting stuff is sickening.
Something has to give. There’s no reason for 4* recruits from Alabama transferring to a 2A VA school.I would love to see them back in Class 3. JM and Northside had some ready good games.
Did a parent take a job in Richmond? Richmond isn't a huge city, but also isn't a small town. There are quite a few economic opportunities in the RVA area. Not saying this is factual by any means. But people do move to and from RVA all the time. If I was moving to a new area I would definitely research the schools and programs and depending on sport(s) my kid(s) play would dictate what school I would want my kids at. So I would make sure I was in the district I need to be in.Something has to give. There’s no reason for 4* recruits from Alabama transferring to a 2A VA school.
It’s not just a 2A school. It’s a winning program(no tuition costs), with a coach that has access to most, if not all P4 coaches in America. As we see in college with NIL and transfer portal, the days of playing with kids from kindergarten are over. Y’all gotta get over it. Beating a dead horse is an understatement. David slayed Goliath-take your best shot come March.Something has to give. There’s no reason for 4* recruits from Alabama transferring to a 2A VA school.
Only playing 5-6 2A games at most will not hurt you when you been playing basically national level comp all seasonPlaying in the 2A State Tourney is of no benefit to JM. It may actually hurt their chances at the national level. There is also the possibility of a kid getting hurt or ejected. I say, if they want to be "elite", then they should stop playing in the 2A division and step it up. They can petition to play up, they just don't want to.
Whatever floats their boat..... Guaranteed title, I guess.Only playing 5-6 2A games at most will not hurt you when you been playing basically national level comp all season
Haha okay buddy whatever you say. You think a 4* from Alabama needs JM? Give me a break. I’d respect it more if the fans just admitted they know the VHSL won’t do anything so JM will do whatever they want. It’s not just a 2A school. Go play 3-4A, they only wanna stay in 2A bc they know it’s a guaranteed title every year. How could any 2A school compete with a program that uses their AAU ties to bring jn 4-5* recruits? It’s sure not the academics.Playing in the 2A State Tourney is of no benefit to JM. It may actually hurt their chances at the national level. lol it would be a guaranteed title at any classification, Bud!!Go play 3-4A, they only wanna stay in 2A bc they know it’s a guaranteed title every year. How could any 2A school compete with a program that uses their AAU ties to bring jn 4-5* recruits? It’s sure not the academics.
There’s some 5-6A teams that can compete with them. If they’re so ungodly unbeatable, why even waste time playing in the VHSL? Go play a national schedule and play teams that also recruit. Letting an AAU coach be the HS coach is insane anyway, and I do wonder how many of these out state transfers have legit addresses. Hmm but who cares? The VHSL surely doesn’t. Just see the Hopewell FB mess or when a kid a few seasons ago was allowed to transfer to a new school just in time for playoffs.lol it would be a guaranteed title at any classification, Bud!!
Yes, looks like there could be some sort of compromise to be reached. It's not fair to JM's other sports to be forced up. However, it's not fair to the rest of the 2A teams in basketball if they don't do something with the basketball team. It won't change, unless some schools ban together and create some push back. Perhaps, call for an investigation into the legitimacy of these moves to the district or threaten to sue because of recruiting (If proven, of course). From what we understood, our latest Convo with Coach Harman at Floyd Co, is that JM basketball wants to play up, but I think there's push back with the other sports at the school not wanting to. We talked to the VHSL about this as well and I believe they are looking at some options, maybe an open division. I feel like it should be easy to grant special cases, like JM basketball, to play up while the other sports at the school stay down.
The VHSL’s hand was forced with the Hayfield football situation; surprised that JM BB isn’t under the same scrutiny. I guess it’s true that the best way to get away with something is to be so obvious that the powers that be can’t believe what is actually going on 😀Something has to give. There’s no reason for 4* recruits from Alabama transferring to a 2A VA school.
speaking of that we have been doing some brainstorming in other classification threads regarding football and hoops state playoffs.lol it would be a guaranteed title at any classification, Bud!!
They played up for years and years. John Marshall has less than 500 kids and their facilities are probably amongst the worse in the state. While I agree and believe they should play up (C3 or C4), their other sports teams (other than girls basketball) would struggle. There was talk of them playing up and I’ve even heard from some in the know that John Marshall could even be on the verge of consolidation. All of the high schools in RPS have a strong alumni base and the school system has cleaned its image up significantly in the past 5 years. I will be first to tell you that outsiders may see it as “cheating” but that Northside Richmond alumni base and people in central office wouldn’t allow any of the mess going on in Fairfax County happen and bring anymore negative attention to the perception of what RPS has already been seen as.Playing in the 2A State Tourney is of no benefit to JM. It may actually hurt their chances at the national level. There is also the possibility of a kid getting hurt or ejected. They want to play up and if they could, they’d play C4 ball.Yes, looks like there could be some sort of compromise to be reached. It's not fair to JM's other sports to be forced up. This one company is building five high rise apartment buildings at the same time. Never seen anything like it.They want to play up and if they could, they’d play C4 ball.
As far as the addresses go, Richmond is thriving right now. New apartments going up, some of the areas which were once seen as dodge city are being rehabbed, VCU is one of the biggest employers in the state along with the other (many many) opportunities RVA has. I’ve lived in DC, RVA and a few other places but Richmond is hands down the best area I’ve lived in (in terms of pay, cost of living, diversity, career and educational opportunities, proximity to other major cities, etc). Families moving to the Richmond area isn’t a head scratcher by any means. The Richmond area is a very good place to live and have a family.
