Alright Pioneer folks. Pardon my ignorance wrt/ your teams in general. I'm familiar with EM and Craig Co. due to playing them every year for the last 15 plus years in non district play in Craigs case and since 1988 in EM case. Short of the occasional playoff game at Covington, Hot Springs and Beuna Vista throughout the years, we are unfamiliar with each other. How do you see Narrows fitting into the rest of the district? I think I can see the boys competing for at least 2nd in the district our first year with Covington, if things came together and baring the injury bug hitting. What say you?

Hopefully the games will be similar to the games our schools have had throughout the years in the playoffs. I remember some classics, especially with Covington and PM.

All I can say is welcome to the District.. And they had better be ready to HIT and GET HIT!!!!

The motto back in the day was if you can't beat them, beat them. Can't say I know if that is the staff philosophy anymore (seriously doubt it), but I know it was for the parents of most of the kids playing now. That part isn't a big concern. Looking forward to the new competition. The travel not so much, but that's on the administration to explain and another soapbox of mine all together.

Pm will win district hands down....Narrows will finish 2nd with Covington 3rd...Covington isn't that good ..Pm embarrassed them twice last year...PM line will be there key to a Pioneer District Title ..o and that Dawson Kid will just be a Junior ...

How many kids does PM have this year that are running a 4.3?
ONE!!!! and it is not open for discussion, it is what it is.. He is #11, Name is Cole Walker and it is my belief that he will be used anywhere and everywhere... Not sure exactly what his 40 is, don't care... What I do know that he is/will be the fastest player on the field every Friday night regardless of what side of the ball he's on.. HANDS DOWN!! 5'-10" maybe 11 about a buck 55...There is fast and then there is "FOOTBALL FAST".. K J Moore, running back for Covington is F-A-S-T!!.. Walker ran him down last year trailing from 12-15 yards, in a straight line after Moore broke through the opposite side of the defense.. Very little angle on Walkers' part.. Moore broke through and went to the middle of the field all alone, BIG MISTAKE!! Walker made a TD saving tackle on the 3 yard line.. Covington eventually scored but it just as easily could have gone the other way on the next play... Laugh if you want to but I would put him up against Cole Beck from Blacksburg in a foot race.. Been trying to get the kid to run track for 3 years, he's just not interested.. As for the rest of "the kids", maybe one or two kids legitimately under a 5.. However, aside from the loss of Cook and Nelson they are basically the same team. The beginning of a new year only makes them, just as it does anyone else, a little SMARTER a little OLDER a little BIGGER and a little STRONGER and in my opinion they will be a little FASTER in all aspects of the game... Keep your eyes and ears open for #11, and several others!! The BLUES have always played "smash mouth football" and they will continue to do so.. Offensively and Defensively... If this years' kids can stay healthy(I know, I know, (IF) etc. etc. etc..., folks will find a way to talk about "BLUES FOOTBALL" even more so than they did last year... Imagine that!!

I guess the rest of 1A just as well concede to PM after they read your post . Go ahead and order those rings ! lmao

Duhh-Huhhh, XCross.....Didn't say that.. Pretty sure I didn't even at the least minimally insinuate anything close to what you have insinuated.... I went back and re-read my post just to make sure and just as I thought, NOWHERE in the previous post did I EVER make mention of or "quote" where I thought the Blues would start, finish or otherwise... The man simply asked a question and I gave him an honest answer, IN MY OPINION!! The ONLY statement I made that even remotely had the possibility of "throwing fuel on the fire" so to speak was the last one.. And, correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm sure you will try to do because that's the kind of D!&K you are, isn't that what "Football Folks" do, talk about said football teams at the beginning, middle and end of the season, and sometimes even after the season?? Geez, regardless of your knowledge of football or any other sport, you really do come A-Xcross as an @$$hole and you my friend are nothing more than an instigator as I'm sure you and many others are aware, and a pretty good one at that.. So, you keep being a D!&K and I'll try to keep being civilized as does the majority of others on this forum...
And as always, GO BLUE!!

Boom, you don't think having a new coach may mean an adjustment period?
DinwiddieProud, I may be wrong but, not really... Coach Wheeler has been the Head JV Coach for the last I don't know how long.. LOL.. So, he has already coached and knows all of these kids first hand and they respect and respond to him very well. He has always assisted with the Varsity operations for years and was usually in the "box upstairs" helping make on field adjustments.. I think he/they will do fine. He's a great guy, a great Coach and he knows football.. He's getting a pretty good group of kids and I hope they do great things for each other this year.. Then again, it is football and anything can happen... Just my opinion, and thanks "football brother" for being respectable, it just makes it a lot easier to communicate with a person!!

Welll.. you proved my point when you compared him to Cole Beck lol!

I can't believe you can't get him to run track?! I'm sure he would've been right there with Beck finishing 2nd in the country in the 100m!!

Hey guys, don't get too hung up on speed. One of the greatest pitchers ever to pitch in MLB only rarely hit 90 mph on the radar gun. And he was unhitable on most nights. Plus, he did everything else that was asked of him. Sacrifice bunting to perfection, and playing his position to Gold Glove standards. Greg Mattox.

So, as impressive as "fast" is, it means nothing if not part of the complete body of work.

You're right, may finish 2nd, he may finish 3rd, he may not finish at all, then again, HE MAY WIN!! That's why I said, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between FAST and FOOTBALL FAST!! You asked how many athletes (kids) PM had that could run a 4.3.. And I told you.. I don't see what is so laughable.. I didn't say he was going to run a 4.3 on every play, he may not have to run a 4.3 period.. What I did say was that when he is he lines up against the competition on Friday Nights, HE WILL BE THE FASTEST GUY ON THE FIELD... Just because you don't see it or believe it doesn't mean it's not true!!!

DinwiddieProud, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!! Like I said, there is a DIFFERENCE between FAST and FOOTBALL FAST... I guess that's hard for some folks to comprehend...

And you're not comprehending I'm making fun of the PM poster (maybe you? I can't remember) that wanted to brag last season about how PM had their entire backfield running 4.4's.

& you saying fast and football fast only works one way. Sure a guy that that runs a 4.8-4.9 can look "football fast" in western Virginia, but give me someone who ran a 10.41 in the 100m on a track and he's still gonna be the fastest guy in cleats

LOL... Ohh Okay, I comprehend just fine thank you.. Yea, that definitely wasn't me but if it had been I would tell you so.. And that person ("poster") knew just as EVERYONE else did that we didn't have A SINGLE PLAYER/RUNNING BACK (other than the Walker kid) that ran under 5...Maybe on a "really good day" we could have as many as two, depending on the tailwind.. And at a 10.41 he may well be the "fastest guy in cleats", or he may be the "2nd fastest guy in cleats" however, we don't compete against Blacksburg and unless we could somehow get them to line up side by side and run a straight line with no obstacles I guess we'll never know... I'm just saying the kid is fast! You'll have to explain further the reference in which you used "Western Virginia".. I don't care where a person is from, if he/she runs a 10.41 100 m or a 4.3= 40, THEY ARE FAST!!! Maybe the FASTEST, MAYBE NOT, none the less they are FAST... A person (kid) can be the fastest person on the field, the track or anywhere else, but if they don't get an opportunity to display it then it's a moot point

Western Virginia was used as a reference because on this end of the state we don't see very many very fast guys. I'd venture to say if you have a guy clocked at a 4.8 he would be the fastest player on the field for at least 75% of his games (on the western end of the state).

I don't care to argue who's fast, who's not, so on and so forth. I was just making a joke about the guy that swore up and down for weeks on this forum that PM had at least three 4.4 guys.

I will say that if your school has a kid that you honestly believe can run with Cole Beck then they're missing out on 1A state championships on the track.

eh31, Finally, we agree on something!!! LOL... If we had (any) guys that ran a 4.5 or under, they NEVER made it to a practice, a game or otherwise... And I will say it again, in a straight line with no obstacles, win, lose or draw I would put Walker right up there with Beck.. I've seen Beck run many times and no doubt he is FAST, but it is also my belief that Walker is just as FAST if not FASTER... Again, you are absolutely correct, I also believe that he missed out on the opportunity for several 1A State Championships in track. He's a great kid and he loves football and basketball and is above average in both but for whatever reason he just had no interest in running track??

Man you learn something new every day. I have never heard of this guy Greg Mattox that is one of the best pitchers ever, however Greg Maddux was an amazing pitcher. Sorry @DinwiddieProud I HAD to do it because Mr. Maddux deserves to have his name right lol Just a little fun, bring on football season and good luck to your team and all the teams this season

I deserved that ole brush back pitch.

Thanks for the good wishes, and same to you. Not long now. With proper medication, I think I can hang on until Monday. And then until the first scrimmage. And with luck and more medication, until the first game.

I had a reason to have a little interaction with several of the players today. Great kids. And like all of us, they are ready to get it all started, too.

The player may be the fastest person on the planet, I dont know and neither does anyone else. I'm glad you have the confidence in him, but your argument doesn't help your stance. You say it's not up for discussion like it's a fact, but then you said you don't know his 40 time and dont care. I hope the kid is that fast because it's good for him, but you responded by saying he does run a 4.3 and then said you don't know, all you know is he is really fast.

And saying your team has nobody else that can break 5 seconds and he chased this kid down, you do realize that being 7 tenths of a second faster than someone is a BIG difference. There is fast, world class fast, and working fast (football fast). Look at it this way, Jerry Rice was rarely if ever caught from behind, and ran a 4.6 40 electronic at combine. The difference is he didn't lose speed when playing, essentially your football fast.

Reading time conversions for top athletes both ways and these are blazing numbers. In the history of the NFL combine, a 4.3 would be tied for the 7th fastest ever.

I'm sure the kid is very fast, fastest on the field as you said, but you can't put a number on that without an electronic time.

Not speaking bad about the kid or you, you should have supreme confidence in him and your team, but just remember that when you start throwing out numbers without even knowing the number you will hear some backtalk. Good luck to the kid, the blues, and you as well. I dont know you so I can't say your making it up, but the numbers talked about are certainly up there as fastest of all time. And if I remember correctly from my football and track days, I think with a 40 hand timed vs electronic time is about .2 seconds, meaning a 4.3 hand time would equate to 4.5. That is still seriously fast, just not top level ever speed.

And just for comparison, after John Ross ran his 4.22 at the combine to be fastest ever, he called out Usain Bolt that he was faster. Texas Am sprinter Christian Coleman proved that wrong by running a 4.12

Since when did speed become a "belief"? Either the kid is faster than Beck or he isn't...we have this crazy thing called a stop watch, it actually tells you how fast a guy is from one place to another. CRAZY!

Stop with the non-sense, no one is faster than Beck, especially some kid from PM.

Last year was a bit agonizing with all of the discussion about PM's backfield. I remember commenting on it quite a bit. It was tall tale after tall tale. Just don't do that this year, it was like listening to my drunk Uncle tell stories about his "glory days". Sometimes you just have to say "enough".

The kid could be a heck of a player, (time will tell), but to say he's faster than Beck is just hysterical.

Here's my advice to you...."enough".

GatorBait1988, you really don't want to know what I think about your "advice" so I'll just leave it at that!! Also, done with all of last years chatter about the backfield.. I think everyone has since moved on.. That was simply someone's attempt to "rattle cages" much like many others do on the forum and my goodness it worked, to a "T"!! And because obviously you know it all, there is NO WAY a kid could be, as I said in my previous post (because I went back AGAIN just to make sure I didn't misspeak) and I quote, (AS FAST OR FASTER)!! That is SIMPLY MY OPINION from seeing them both run, straight lines, unobstructed, point A to point B.. (Not side by side, not one on one, not in race or even in the same environment, competition).. Say/Believe what you will, I said it, I'll say it again, he is that fast... Faster?? Maybe, Maybe not.. None the less, FAST.. Nowhere in what I've stated did I find anything laughable, much less hysterical.. Your disrespect and interjection of sarcasm of someone's opinion really says a lot about you... Simply because YOU don't "buy into" what was said doesn't make it any less believable nor does it make it any more believable.. Bottom line... I, just like you have never seen the two kids compete under those circumstances nor in that arena.. Oh, and I'm sorry to hear that you have an Uncle that is a drunk, at least he still has his memory...

Enough.

Speed isn't something you buy into....you can prove it or disprove it.

Have him run a 40 and then get back to us.....Beck has times and they speak volumes. It's easy to state "I believe he's faster and I don't care what you say...."....grow up. Get a watch a provide a time or "enough".

Got it?

See, you're learning... That is neither an "opinion" nor is it a "true statement of fact".. What I said was AS FAST OR FASTER!! Get It?
Now, your post is quite laughable, not hysterical but still laughable... And no, it's still not "enough" nor do I as you put it "Got It"!!

Well Said !!!!!!

Now it's getting hysterical... WOW!!! poor GatorBait1988 (ESPECIALLY SOME KID FROM PM) I really don't understand. Why is it that NO(athlete)kid from PM can ever be as big, or as fast, or as tough, or as competitive as kids from other schools... I don't give a rat's @$$ if it's a 1-A or a 6-A school.. You just refuse to give them any credit whatsoever, which by the way just makes it that much more "hysterical".. I just don't understand, are you people that threatened/intimidated by the Yosemite Sam mascot and the "FIGHTING BLUES" moniker?? I know we're talking football and all and some of you may or may not be aware of it but, the simple fact that we had two kids finish as the Indoor 1A State Champion(senior)and the other a(junior)as the runner-up in the shot as well as the 1A Outdoor State Champion and runner up in the shot and discus and the same kid as runner up, which by the way, did they not only out throw everyone in the entire 1A Classification but also everyone in the 2A Classification and the majority of the 3A Classification and there were VERY few in the four five and six A Classification that out threw these two kids... They are competitive.. I'm just saying, don't underestimate what I'm telling you!! I know, I know, now back to football... And as always, GO BLUE!!

So......the kid's you bring up from PM that were in the field events, that's actually intelligent. They threw a shot/discus and were MEASURED, their MEASUREMENT beat everyone else in their classification and a lot of other kids as well. That's called data. We can use that. You can now state, "These kids from PM can throw farther than this person, or that person, we know, we have MEASUREMENTS." Vaguely stating "I BELIEVE this person is faster", is just wrong. Either they are....or they aren't.

My statement about "especially from PM" is a little jab at the poster last year that stated they had 3 kids in the backfield that were running 4.4's. I've watched them, many times, they aren't running 4.4's, not close. They ARE very good football players, they just aren't running 4.4's. Those are just facts.

I have zero issues with PM's team, I was actually hoping they would beat GW last year (tall task). It seems that I have a problem with their fans gloating about easily refutable issues. You have a solid squad and it's great to cheer your team on, but to state you have a kid that is "as fast or faster" than Beck is just wrong and doesn't draw a good picture for the PM fan base.

Do as you please, say as you please, and cheer as you please. But, best believe, when you come on this board and start spewing nonsense, you will be called out for it.

I apologize (I guess) DinwiddieProud, I didn't mean to "cross the line". But something had to be said. My brain was leaking out of my ears when I was reading the posts from above.

Good luck to everyone this year! Hopefully PM can take down GW! I'll definitely be cheering for them!
