Previewing the RVa area 2018 high school cross country season
Class 5
Boys:
Atlee: The Raiders are strong at the top with Kameron Helmlinger and Ian Sellors, and have good depth with Matthew Heldmann and Andrew Mudd. The fifth spot will be important.
L.C. Bird: With Brendan Taylor and Jacob Plummer, the Skyhawks have a 1-2 punch. Shahmique Cromwell, Corey Pisa and Sebastian Ziegler also return.
Deep Run: The Wildcats have plenty left to make another run in the state with Colby Burcham, Jake Schindel, Emil Baggs, Samuel D’Ascoli, Josh Donnelly and Jacob Hanner.
Glen Allen: Ali Ibrahim is a state contender. He’ll get help from Ben Jackson, Josh Holtzman, Wade Carter and Ethan Billmayer.
Mills Godwin: The Eagles are solid up top with sophomores Ryan Newman and Lucas Cusick and senior Jack Deutsch. They’re looking to develop depth.
Henrico: Senior Caleb Huang and junior Jontae Burton lead a team of mostly juniors and sophomores. Pranav Sabbu and Anish Shah will contribute.
Lee-Davis: The Confederates lost a lot from a team that finished fourth in the state, but have senior Avery Witherow. The team is young, with sophomores Collin Parent and Cole Lewis, and juniors Peyton Fox and Gerrit Moyar.
J.R. Tucker: The Tigers return six runners, led by seniors Ben Wasik, Gabe Lynch and Sam Rubin. Juniors Mitch Pettus and Nick Kellum, and sophomore Drew Blandford are back.
