Henrico juniors De'Montae Buckingham is one of the top 2016 prospects in the state of Virginia and he showed why in the Warriors win over Norview. He simply took over whether it was drawing a charge, blocking shots, or making a key basket Buckingham (6-foot-4) got it done. He made a traditional 3-point play to give Henrico their first lead (59-58) since early in the game. Later, he drove down the lane for a layup to put Henrico back out in front 62-60. After a miss by Norview, Buckingham finished a fast break with a dish to teammate Jamal Newton for an easy layup. He ended his dominant play with a steal late in the game. Buckingham finished with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Buckingham has over a dozen offers including Maryland, Virginia, and Cincinnati.
Senior Ryan Pearson (6-foot-0) provided Henrico with a deep threat in their win over Norview. He finished 3 of 6 from downtown while also adding four assists. Pearson has perfect form on his jumper and he's able to shoot in transition. He's already committed to the Naval Academy after a strong AAU season with Team Loaded. Senior Walter Williams was a tough matchup for the Pilots and his 18 points tied Buckingham for scoring honors. The athletic swingman made the most of his shot attempts making 6 of 9 field goals and converted 6 of 8 free throws. Williams spent most of the afternoon inside the lane. He has good length and he is very active underneath. He will be attending Virginia State after he graduates.
Norview had a couple of good looking wing prospects who seem to be interchangeable. Senior Greg Heckstall (6-foot-5) may have been the most talented among the group. An outstanding shooter, Heckstall scored 13 points included three from deep while adding five rebounds and five assists. He had to handle the ball more with starting point guard Damion Madison in street clothes but it did not affect his ability to get his shot off. Jaylen Frazier (6-foot-4) scored 15 points including a trey while adding five rebounds. Junior Lamont Steward had some nice moments scoring 13 points with four rebounds and two blocks. He runs the court and plays with a passion. However, he missed all three of his 3-point attempts and he turned the ball over five times.
