Question for Gretna Hawks' fans

I posted this question on the 3A board under the TOC 2003 Hawks, but I thought I'd post here as well. Gretna is well respected across the state on every level of football with 5 titles and 163 wins in the "vhsl-reference" era. I was curious about what's going on with them? Have they hit a rough patch that will be resolved soon or are they in for a long stretch of poor seasons? Any Hawk fans out there care to shed some light or speculate what's going on with one of the most successful teams in the state? Despite their struggles the last 2 years their wins total over the last 16 years still ranks as the 9th most in the state. Any ideas HR6, Hawk fans?

I think its the lack of talent down there at the time. There basketball team has won 1 game in 2 complete seasons. So its not just the fball field.

I know this though. I said 2 years ago the coach made a dumb decision not starting their best athlete at QB (Von Bennett). When they did start him late in the season, they started winning.

I just think that other than Appomattox last year, the perennial football powers over the last few years have come from the NRV and far southwest Virginia.

Gretna is usually always one of those teams people down this way keep an eye on every year. Several years ago, I still remember being shocked that Virginia High made that trip up there and came out with a W. Wasn't that a 3 vs. 14 seed matchup that year?

All I know is, we have not won a playoff game since beating Goochland for the 2011 State Championship. That's 4 seasons without a playoff win.

The year Virginia High beat us, we scored 40 points and lost. I believe we went to Grayson one year and scored 40 and lost. I do know that in our last 3 playoff games, we have given up 40 points in each game. Not gonna win many that way. Gretna has got to get back to throwing the ball and putting a good defense on the field.
