Gretna run into a DC with Radford that knew how to shut them down. Of coarse Gretna’s dumb Hc had no idea how to make adjustments to counter it

The negativity on these boards is amazing. A 7-6 loss for Gretna hurts and on the flip side Matt Saunders gets a big win. But why the negative comment about the head coach? How does anyone know if adjustments were made or not and if they were made did they work? Maybe it wasn't just adjustments but injuries, better play by one side or a myraid of other reasons. Why dump on a high school coach?

Glad to see Matt Saunders get that 'W". He has a woven past with Gretna.

I know it was his dream job.
He and I coached together WAY back when he first started teaching in Altavista. He really wanted to coach at his old school.

The reason everyone knows that no adjustments were made is because he’s been doing the same thing since he’ been a HC. He has Never made any!

Everyone knows. Who is everyone? Is everyone at practice? Is everyone in film session watching film of the opponent ? Is everyone in the halftime huddle as decisions, adjustments are made? Sometimes a running team will stick with their game plan to see if the other team can be worn down. Or sometimes you just lose when you commit turnovers, miss tackles and assignments as football players sometimes do. Support your team and be happy. These negative comments DO NOT HELP. THEY CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN PARENTS AND PLAYERS READ THEM. Try being positive for a change.

I think you are wasting your breath on this topic sadly. Ever since they won their last championship, when they lose some of their posters just completely trash the coaching. When they win, you guessed it, same thing maybe down a few notches. They should have won by more if not for the coaches. And I am not talking about someone who thinks everyone should run one specific offense and the rest suck.

I begin to wonder with some schools and some posters if their team has ever lost a game that the other team was just better. It's always someone fault or something

Complaining about coaching blows my mind. Most of the loudest have actually tried to get into coaching at some point and there is usually a valid reason they are not there. It is in nearly every program and sport. I actually heard people dogging Dixon after the Galax opener. DIXON???? Come on. The bottom line is that 99% of the time, if you could be a decent coach you are coaching. I disagree with many coaches and their styles and demeanor...but unless I'm on that staff and we are going to be privately talking i will keep my analysis to a sentence. And I certainly will not call them "stupid" or call for their job!

The road to the MED championship went through Grayson County for years. Then people of Grayson County started complaining about BILL strong after all he had done for that program. They got what they wanted and Strong went NC and had a very successful run as GC struggled for several years until McPherson got the program up to where he wanted..
This is not throwing shade at McPherson in anyway or to anyone's beliefs on this post. Just showing that sometimes a good coach is pushed out that should not have been.

I respectfully disagree with nearly all of your post, yet I agree some with the premise. I get it regarding some fans complaining or being anywhere near coaching when they shouldn't, etc. BUT....if your idea was followed completely, there would be ZERO critique of coaching. That is dangerous. Because one is a coach should NOT shield them from critique. Now, we would probably agree on when and where that critique should and shouldn't occur. There is a place and time

I think you are reading absolutes from a one paragraph post. Of course there should be a critique of coaching. However, to think that any irritated parent should get to take up said coaches time to express their displeasure each week is ridiculous. Calling or showing up at coaches home on Saturday or Sunday is reprehensible. Interrupting them while spending time with their family is simply poor manners. These are examples of things I have witnessed or experienced. My point is that MOST of the people who do these things have only a dangerous amount of knowledge of the game in question or no real constructive critique...only a critique. In my little pipe dream, a coach would be given carte blanche while employed as said coach, and then they can suffer repercussions when they fail to post results.

The OP was probably a little harsh, but I can't say I disagree with him. I've seen Gretna play and they don't do a particularly good job of making mid-game adjustments. When Gretna gets in a hole, they have a tendency to keep digging deeper.

I agree with every bit of that

Sometimes it is not about adjustments but better execution of the original game plan. Should one adjust or emphasize better execution or a combo of the two. Not always clear cut in that halftime meeting.
