Random thoughts on the game I went to yesterday..

Not looking to argue either. If they don't turn the ball over or commit stupid penalty's, I don't see anyone in 1A beating them. They went toe to toe with James Monroe in the first half before eventually losing fairly bad. James Monroe is my pick for 3A champion, as I think they are capable of beating Phoebus. Do you think there is another 1A team that could play with James Monroe? Don't take anything I say personally, this is just a message board with opinions and thoughts and mine are not expert by any means

I didn't take any of it personally. I agree that to compete against a solid 3A school they are very good. I just know there are several 1A schools on both sides of the bracket that can hang with most 2A and 3A teams within the state. I guess only time will tell. Sounds like it will be a challenge for whomever gets to the semi's/finals.

I disagree. I don't think there are many at all, especially that could compete with 3A title contenders. If you haven't seen James Monroe play, you should take a look at some film. They have some awesome athletes and arguably one of the best coaches in VA. That is a potent combination. 2A I would agree, as there just doesn't seem to be a clear cut leader, and I would say a down year for that class, as well as 1A

No bulletin board material 2x4. Lol. Their are plenty of other good teams out there and Essex will have to bring their A game each week. Nothing will be handed to anybody.

lol, that's why they play the game, right? Really doesn't matter what any of us think. Essex certainly not infallible or unbeatable. No telling how they might respond if they were to get behind. They also don't travel well in my opinion. So if they make it to the semi's, and have to go way out west, it would certainly tip the odds against them. And yes I'm rambling and bored because it's raining and I can't work

I do find it amusing that between Essex and Riverheads they have beat sometimes badly the #2,3,5,6,7 teams in 2A east

2x4, I looked at some clips of Essex/James Monroe and it looked like some missed tackles cost you guys. I also looked at several of your clips against other opponents and there is definitely some size to your line. I think it would be a good matchup with a number of teams. As for the traveling stuff, as stated elsewhere I think you guys will out point RHS even if we win so you will probably be at "home" until Salem.

Hah. Im not a Trjojan lol. Actually jealous of their recent success.

Sorry, I thought you were. No problem, just tell me you aren't in the same district, cause that's against all the rules. It's the ultimate crime to become a "fan" of one of your rivals, lol. I despise Buffalo Gap and to a lesser degree Wilson(they aren't really our rival cause we own them).

No, I'm a West Pointer. Only reason I follow Essex is cause our former HC is their HC, and I love high school football

2x4 I would be very surprised if Essex was more athletic or mobile than GW up front all of the kids we have on the line are very mobile for linemen and have really good speed. Plus the conditioning program at GW is very good as is our weight program it will be a very fun game if these 2 meet up in the playoffs. We have improved by so much and Essex is Essex lol

Who do you see coming out the west? Do you think GW can beat Radford if they meet again being they lost to them earlier? I'm going with Galax, then its a toss up between Burton,Radford,GW

Well if the points work out the way they are now then I would have GW and PM as my 2 and GW, Galax, PM and Auburn as my 4. But the points wont stay the same you have a lot of teams playing each other so they will change so I would go with Galax and GW. But the 4 best teams in the West IMO are GW, Galax, Radford and PM I just think they are. The reason I don't have Burton in is they haven't really played a hard schedule and I think that will hurt them come playoff time. Union and Honaker are 2 very good teams but that's all they have played. And yes I do think GW can beat Radford if we play again that game had a ton of blown coverage's and gadget plays now that's not an excuse they were the better team that night and it showed. But we have gotten so much better in the pass D and our run D was fine against them the first time it would be a close game but I think we would win in a shoot out. Our O line and running game was winning at the line the whole 1st Q then Radford started to throw it a lot and it paid off. Like I said it will be hard for a team to do a lot with our lines they are massive and quick. They are not fat they are tall and long with very good strength and can pull with the best. It will not surprise me if we get some combination of GW, Galax, Radford, PM and maybe Burton. But I really think it is a 3 horse race between GW Galax and Radford all 3 can run or throw they all have good depth and all 3 have game changing weapons. Most teams have 1 or 2 to worry about these 3 have a team you have to account for and can hurt you in many ways.

Pretty similar we are faster and have more depth but on the starting 11 its really close. I think on VHSL reference it has them as the team that GW is most similar to.

:D:rolleyes:

HEY! lol Gap has only beaten you once since 2008. We've done it 3 times! I resent that statement.

Don't underestimate a team like Riverheads and what they could do against Essex. I would be interested in seeing this matchup, but I'm also hoping RHS loses their first playoff game as well

Hooked, I was thinking I might have to switch bait.

Thanks for the confidence that we may have an opportunity to play Essex but there are probably 3-4 teams on either side that will be heard from before the playoffs are done.

I would love to get the opportunity ti coach at Rappahannock County! I see unlimited potential at the 1A level!

It would be great if that job came open very soon. If so, apply!

The Panthers *should* get their first win tomorrow night. They play Massanutten who, at one point early in the season, only had 18 players on the team. If Rapp is smart and sticks with letting their big QB run around the ends they will pull it out. It will be their first win since 2012. They have not beaten a public high school since 2009, so that opportunity will have to wait until next season.

I have both finishing with a 27.4 rating. Riverheads should get tiebreaker
I have Essex at 27.5 and RHS AT 27.4. I hope your right but I still have Essex with the #1 seed. You guys are certainly better at this than I am so we will go with your calculations, lol. I will eventually learn how to do "simple" math.

I think with Deep Run blowing a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter it will leave both teams tied and Riverheads will get the top seed.

Congrats to Riverheads on a 10-0 season! Best of luck to Essex also on a fine year! Both are playoff bound!
