Realignment news.

Since the Realignment committee met today, I feel like we should see the new realignment data tomorrow. I’m sure there will be a number of appeals as there always are. And a few appeals will result in changes, but mostly what you see when the information is posted will be the way it is. When you see the associated ADM numbers, don’t be alarmed. The League is only using 9th, 10th, and 11th grade enrollment now. So the numbers do not reflect the TOTAL school enrollment.

The ADM numbers listed look to be full enrollment.

In still wondering if they will go to 4 our 5 divisions or not. Lets see how many schools decide to play in their own classification instead of playing up.

I honestly think they stick with 6... more playoffs, more championships, more revenue. If there is a change, I think it would be 5 not 4.

That is the official ADM numbers from the State, not the edited numbers used for realignment, I believe. (9-11th grade).

I understand that the release of the official realignment data has been delayed by a couple of days.

Dinwiddie...shoot me a private message when you can. Since we're coming to your house in August I need to find out who I need to talk to in order to get two seats in the Press Box. I'm too old to be sitting out in the hot sun for four hours. :)

VHSL released numbers and proposed region alignments via e-mail this morning.

I am not liberty to divulge them as a staff writer but they are interesting to say the least. Keep your eye on Region 6A and 5C for the biggest changes. Also, several schools are off 1-5 students from being up or down a class. Interesting stuff.

I’m shocked that the info hasn’t surfaced on Preps yet. It’s been in the hands of the realignment committee members for some time now, which means that every AD and Principal have a copy. Quite a difference from a few years ago. The ink wouldn’t be dry in past years before the info was posted on social media.

August 8 Deadline to request an appeal (post appeals the next day)

August 15 Deadline to submit an opposition to an appeal (post appeals the next day)

August 23 Appeal Committee meets to hear appeals and recommend the final alignment plan to the Executive Committee for 2023 – 2027.
 
Appeal Committee will meet Tuesday, August 23, (tentative time 9:00 a.m.) to consider final appeals; after acting on appeals, the Committee will present its final plan with justification for Executive Committee approval on September 21. A school may then appeal the Appeal Committee’s decision to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee shall conduct no hearing in response to the appeal. Instead, the Executive Committee’s review of the appeal shall be limited to an evaluation of the written record of the original appeal as published in the appendix of the Recommended Alignment Plan. The Executive Committee shall then issue its decision in response to all such appeals as amendments to its final motion to approve the formal alignment plan. The VHSL’s Executive Director shall inform each appellant school of the Executive Committee’s decision. The decision of the Executive Committee shall be final.

September 6 Appeals to Executive Committee due

September 21 Executive Committee determines final alignment plan – 2023 - 2027

Does anyone have the NEW, 2022 enrollment numbers from the VHSL? The numbers posted above in this thread are confusing. They are from 2020 and they are NOT grades 9 through 11. They were for grades 9-12, so not to be offensive, but I don't know why 2020 numbers were posted in this thread. It has created confusion. If anyone gets the NEW numbers from the VHSL, please post them.

I’m a little shocked to see Louisa moving up to 5, and Phoebus back in 4.

Poor Deep Run and Meadowbrook can’t win a game in 5, now they will be in 6. But that really doesn’t mean anything. They will play their same schedules, and in the rare event they qualify for the playoffs, then they will face the music.

LCA in 2 might be what we all feared. Private schools coming in an dominating.

Mike, you are forgetting something. This IS the plan. It can only be altered if there is an appeal, and it is approved. The League can’t simply say that LCA should be in 3. I’m afraid the competition in 2 better look out.

Kings Fork moving up is unfortunate, in my eyes. They are on the verge of being a perennial championship contender in 4.

Highland Springs in 6 should make for some dandy playoff games.

Sorry to see Sherando move up a notch. A rematch between them and Dinwiddie was long awaited after 2013.

Mike, what do you see interesting out your way? Pulaski dropping down surprised me.
 
The March 31, 2022, ADM list shows the figures used to assign schools for the current cycle with designated break points separating the classes. Based on the recommended alignment plan, if a school would like to appeal its placement, it must submit its appeal in writing to the VHSL office no later than Monday, August 8, 2022, with justification/rationale included. Guidelines to consider appeals include but are not limited to:



  1. 1% above or below the class cutoff.
  2. Support from the Region that the school is requesting to join.
  3. Undue hardship on school – includes geography, financial hardship(s) such as transportation, class time, etc.

they finally moved Franklin County out of 6A (moved down) but replaced them with PH- Roanoke ;)
I also saw Harrisonburg in 5D which will change because half of those kids will go to Rocktown HS next year.
Mecklenburg in 5C.

I made a separate post, Preliminary Realignment notes. Riverheads to C2 is another biggie.

Mecklenburg will have be a bit she’ll shocked when they start playing the bigger schools. Those kids were used to a little slower game. Or at least a few less athletes on the field at the same time.

What I find interesting is how close Glen Allen was to remaining in Class 5. How close Matoaca is to moving up to Class 5. How close Hopewell is to moving up to Class 4.

Are any of those three planning to appeal?
 
I think they are building a new high school in Frederick County so that will alleviate Sherando. There’s also a new high school being built in Stafford too.

I do not know.

Glen Allen could appeal to stay in 5 because 6A is going to be brutal come playoff time.

Matoaca could appeal to move up to 5C because 4B is such a gauntlet and 5C might be an easier road to state semi's.

I would be shocked if Hopewell appealed to go to 4B but anything is possible.
