The 3rd Annual Allen Iverson Reebok Crossover Showcase featured a different twist changing to a showcase instead of a multi-day tournament. Hampton Roads teams from the Southside and Peninsula competed at the spacious Hampton Coliseum.Allen Iverson made an appearance and presented an award. Churchland 58 Menchville 37 Before the game there was a moment of silence for Ben Moore, the late Menchville head coach who passed away two weeks ago. Menchville led 7-5 early but Lynquel Glover keyed an 8-0 run with six points and the Truckers never looked back. Churchland led by double-digits for most of the game and they scored the games final 13 points. Rontre Pope was selected as the Crossover Player of the Game after scoring 10 points but the award could have just as easily been given to Glover or Dallas Wilson. Glover finished with 15 points, two steals and two assists while Wilson scored 14 points with while adding 12 rebounds. Menchville was led by Amar Hawkins who scored 10 points to go along with four steals and two blocks. Allen Strothers had six rebounds and three assists. Phoebus 81 Norcom 58 Phoebus improved to 9-1 with a win over the Norcom Greyhounds who have won four straight State Championships. The Phantoms led by 11 midway thru the 3rd quarter (44-33) but Norcom tied the game at 48 to start the 4th quarter after a triple by Dasean Roberts. Back-to-back baskets by Detionne Leach extended the Phoebus lead to 53-48. Leach scored all eight of his points in the 4th quarter while adding seven rebounds all in the second half. Antwan Miles was the Crossover Player of the Game scoring 21 points with six assists and three steals. Akeen Hicks came off the bench to score 18 points including three 3-pointers. Domineque Johnson had 12 points nine rebounds and three assists. Oscar Smith 65 Hampton 64 Oscar Smith led Hampton by 20 points (46-26) early in the 3rd quarter before fighting off a furious Crabber comeback to win 65-64. The Tigers led by eight at halftime and appeared to be on cruise control until Hampton received spark from two players who didn't play in the 1st half. Zaiyen Chapman and Jacquez Yow combined for nine points in the 3rd quarter. A layup by James Harris gave Hampton the lead 60-59 with a 1:28 left in the game. Briquan Harrell was clutch from the free throw line sinking four straight free throws to give Oscar Smith a 64-60 lead with 14 seconds remaining. Harrell was the Crossover Player of the Game finishing with a showcase high 24 points while adding seven rebounds. Andre Bottoms and Jakarrie Lennon added 11 points each. Lennon made three treys while Bottoms added four assists. Nyzaiah Chambers was huge inside with six blocks and six rebounds. Hampton was led by James Harris who finished with 16 points and 11 boards. Quishon Harris added 13 points and three assists. Lake Taylor 65 Bethel 39 Lake Taylor jumped on Bethel early and Titans easily defeated the Bruins 65-39. Norfolk State recruit Joe Bryant made four 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter scoring 16 of his 19 points before halftime. All five Lake Taylor starters scored in the 1st quarter to lead 12-8. Bryant scored 14 points in the 2nd to outscore the Bruins by himself. Jalen Jordan added 11 points in the quarter as the Titans led 40-20 at halftime. Both teams substituted freely in the second half. Bryant was the Crossover Player of the Game scoring 19 points with five rebounds and three steals. Jordan added 14 points and five rebounds while Dereon Seabron stuff the stat boobs with 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks, three steals and three assists. Bethel received eight points and 10 boards from Amir Devone while Darius Hester scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds.
