Region D

As far as I know, the 4 Regions in Class 3 have NOT officially decided to send 8 teams to the playoffs. I have no information on which to base this, but an 8 team per region seems like a logical choice.

Assuming this will be the format, pick the 8 teams that YOU think will be playoff bound after 10 regular season games. I know that this can be a little tough, since only about 1/3 of the teams have released their full schedules.

Pick your teams in order of #1 to #8. And keep this in mind when you rank your teams, VHSL points!
A 6-4 team could well be ranked #2 or #3 because of points.

And, pick one, and only one #9 wildcard team that you think could very well make the playoffs if the stars line up.

Tunstall will be a very solid team this year. They're going to have solid o and d line play and their defense is probably going to be the best behind Magna Vista in this region. They have 2 very good RBs in Trevor Lovelace and Tyler Dean returning. I think their QB play will determine their season. If they have a good QB, they will be a top 4 team in this region, if not then I say anywhere from 6-9.

It is always difficult to predict high school football. There is a ton of variables that can change the course for teams very quickly. However, the Trojans have a great coaching staff and are probably the second best team in Pittsylvania County currently. I based my guess on their schedule. I have them at about .500- 4-6, 5-5 or 6-4, .....but I have them losing to Dan River, GW, Magna Vista, Franklin County and I think the Martinsvile game could go either way. I just don't see them getting a lot of points and a stumble along the way really puts them in a bad spot. If they can grab an extra win or two they might be able to sneak into the top 6, but at this point I just don't see it.

Thanks Newsleather. You and I have the same opinion although I see them beating DR who lose A LOT and Martinsville who just lost their coach and 3/4s of their scoring production. I know it's extremely early and a lot can happen. I do know one thing, MV and SR will be on a collision course to meet. Both teams are going to be real good. LB won't be a slouch either.

I hope the injury bug will stay at bay for LB this year, and they can get back to their winning ways. The last part of their season last year kind of got ugly. Just one of those, "if it could go wrong, it did". But, Coach Harless is one terrific coach. They have something to prove. Anyone that takes them lightly will regret it.

I'm expect Bassett (the team that assistant is now the head coach of) to make some strides in 4a. They are a long ways from competing with GW, MV, and the Salem's and Sherando's but they will eventually get there. Coach Johnson is going to be a good one. I expect them to be very competitive within the next 4-5 years.
