after watching all 6 championship games this past week, rhs 2006 team had 4 close playoff games that year, winning 4 games by total of 17 points, with a 1 point title game, and a top 5 rhs playoff game vs William campbell, keep playing the way u are this year and u will have a good run at another title, GO BIG RED

Only watched one game so far . Can someone tell me where all those big kids came from ? Standing at the fence they look 7 feet tall and 300 lbs. Don't remember seeing any of them at the mall in Greenville this summer .

One of the biggest teams we’ve had at Riverheads I would say I think they are all pretty young to

Were they home grown or transfers ? Really have not seen them around town .

I guess I will have to wait a couple weeks to see them again . My ole tractor won't make it to Northern Va. or wherever they have to go to get someone to play . All these schools close by and they refuse to take it on the chin ! Hats off to those who schedule the Red Team . " To be the best you have to beat the best " . VHSL needs to step up and fix this . jmo

There is a dozen or more schools with in 35 miles of Riverheads that refuse to play football but some will play other sports . Not sure what the rules are but I would say play all sports or none ! No way a 1A school is that much better in football than the 2A & 3A schools in a 35 mile radius .

It hurts the bigger schools more in points if they lose to a 1A school, that might be the reason they dont play the big red machine.....

They should put their big Girl panties on and step up to the plate . Why not stay close to home and get great gate along with concessions $ and take a whoopin , no lets travel 3 hours and get the same whoopin and little to no gate when they come to us . Makes a lot of CENTS ha ha ! jmo

That’s a misnomer because with the classification difference pts that are added back in for playing down, they get the same points as if they won or lost to a school at their level. It’s a preference thing and not wanting to get beat by a 1A school. I am sure when the decline comes that there will be quite a few coming to pick the bones.

I was just about to say the same thing.

A win or loss to a lower classification is treated points wise to your own classification.

Thus, someone like Spotswood would get the same amount of points beating an 8-2 Riverheads (36) or the same amount of points for a loss to 8-2 Riverheads (16) compared to a win over 8-2 Lord Botetourt (36) or loss (16)

@MT FAN 91, you would think that’s the case but the VHSL actually got that part right. It shouldn’t hurt a 3A team to take on a team within their district that is 1A. As for why teams won’t play Riverheads, preparing for them is a little different so that’s a somewhat valid point. I still think it’s a cop out but they have their reasons.

That is the way it started, but now its whether its district or not.

I think the out of district scheduling issues some teams would have if this wasn’t the case had to play a part in the decision.

jer said if u need a ride give him a holler, we leave early, and no smoking, and u have to sit with a red head that does a lot of hollering at the game

Thanks , but I smoke ole stoggies . short but not too big around !

Funniest part of preview of Riverheads-Skyline in local paper up here. "Gilbert said the Hawks haven’t seen Riverheads’ punt team on any of the game films they’ve studied." Well that can't be good news for the Hawks.

I think something might have been lost in the explanation to the reporter. I think the bigger question is even if Riverheads ran the same play all night, can the Hawks stop them from getting 7 yards a pop.

Since these two teams are COMPLETELY unfamiliar with one another, it might come down to who figures out the other one first and makes the better adjustments. It sounds as if Skyline puts up big points but also allows big, so a shootout is more likely than a defensive dogfight.

“ ...our defensive coordinator, he made a cheat sheet for them and tested all of the kids...”

I really want to see this cheat sheet

Defensive coordinator for Skyline is a BG alum who also has a nephew on Riverheads team. None of that really matters, just saying. Gladiators will roll.
