I won't use the word "dishonest" about this discussion or any other but if there is one situation in the VHSL that needs addressing, it is the LCA football and John Marshall basketball programs. Last I heard in high school ball, you are supposed to play for the school that is closest to where you live. So you can't tell me that all these world-class athletes establish residences in those two areas every year. In fact wouldn't it be interesting to do a study some time and see how fast they head back to their home towns once those state titles have been won?
Now if those are considered private boarding schools and the athletes qualify on that basis, then fine, but let them compete in the private school leagues. It is totally unfair year in and year out for Virginia's public schools in those classifications and those sports to start practicing, knowing from the beginning that they will not have a shot at a state title.
