Forrest then hit a hard shot off the shortstop which scooted in to centerfield scoring Tanner for the winning run.

The Sundevils jumped on the Peninsula District champions with three runs in each of the first two innings chasing Menchville starter Garrett Chrismon. Menchville closed to within two by putting four runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Moore lofted a fly ball to left that carried all the way to the fence scoring Leroy Simmonds for the Monarchs first run. Forrest followed with single to center to make it 6-2. DeShaun Hewitt hit a high hopper which was fielded by the second baseman but the throw was not in time scoring a run to make it 6-3. A ground out by Hunter Martin cut the Salem deficit to 6-4.
