Shenandoah District is no joke

We may not win all the championships but the Shenandoah is know for having teams make runs in the playoffs.

Everyone is seeing what we all knew about Luray a few years ago. They are smash mouth and not afraid of anyone

And everyone is also seeing just how good Coach Girolmo is for Lee. As long as he is there, Lee will compete for state titles every single season. They have always had the talent, even when in 3A, but Tibbs could never quite get them disciplined

Tibbs is a wonderful man and a joy to be around, but he was bloody awful as a coach. I'm happy to see Coach G doing well. I had expected big things but started to doubt him when they didn't happen right away.

Don't forget that your other co-champion in the Shenandoah (Riverheads) will also be going to the region final in 1B. The three co- champions all advancing. Too bad that 2 have to play each other. Definitely shows the strength of the Shenandoah District.

I picked Luray over Central in 2B, but after listening to game tonight I'm curious. How would Stuarts Draft had fared against the 2 Bull Run teams? It sounded as if Lee beats Central worse than they did the Cougars.

And yes I am a fan. And no they didn't get in, but even people from BR had said they should have been in over their bottom teams.

It also sounded as though Central didn't play well and made lots of mistakes

Central completely wrecked my bracket. RE Lee just may be the only team left that can stop Appo. Luray is good, but I don't think they match up well with the Raiders. RE Lee does. As for Goochland and Poquoson, it's still apples and oranges until the semifinals.

Hope to see one of yall in Salem. The Raiders that is.... #Go Raiders #PO1

Since Appomattox has a D1 quarterback and D1 wide receiver, that would not bode well for Luray. Their biggest weakness is defending the pass.

Appo had three turnovers and won. Millbrook as a overrated 1 seed got beat twice by the same team within 2 weeks. My logic great teams can overcome turnovers. As a 1 seed you should not blow a 10 point lead especially at your place

I think we can all safely say that once again it doesn't get anymore overrated than the Bull Run. Central obviously found fools gold against a weak #1 Clark team that most likely would have lost to Stuart's Draft and Buffalo Gap. Losing to Sherando is nothing to be disappointed in as they have the coaching, tradition, and talent to compete every year.

Luray is just plain mean and physical. And when #3 is healthy (I think he missed the Riverheads game) they are going to be a tough out for ANYBODY. I didn't think (actually, hoped) they would beat Clarke but sounds like the game was not as close as the score.

And Central getting thrashed that way by RE Lee?!? Gotta' hand it to the Shenandoah this year in football! Congrats and good luck.

Appo had 3 turnovers? If you're talking about the Giles game, I didn't see any except maybe one in garbage time. I believe the 3 turnovers were Luray's INTs against Clark(e), offered as proof that Luray can indeed defend the pass.

What did Central in last night was the speed of Lee. My lord they had speed all over the field. When coaches made no adjustments on defense at all. Most of the game central was playing their backers 6 yards off the ball.

The bright kid was just as fast but was not utilized properly. Central was outcoached by a wide margin last night

I meant relative to their run defense. Everybody's pass defense gets better when opponent has third and long.

The interceptions-
1st one -hit off receivers hands and bounced straight up in air and got picked. Was wide open
2nd one -nice play by the olb (big time pass rush) late in game as clarke was scrambling to move ball.
3rd-hail Mary on last play of game.

Best of luck to Luray and Lee next week.

Luray's best defense against the pass is their power running game, they keep the ball the majority of the time,at least that is their plan.

Luray played an excellent game. They completely shut Clarke down offensively. When Clarke got a lucky fumble at the start of the first half at the Luray 5 yard line, Luray denied them 4 straight plays. I knew it was over for Clarke after that series. Clarke got lucky getting 1 touchdown, the local paper glossed over the fact that Peyton Rutherford was basically pushed and pulled by his O-Line the last 10-12 yards. Shoot, half the guys on the field were involved in that scrum.

I will also say that I am disappointed in the crowd participation on Clarke's side. Luray's side was packed and lining the fence, they were loudly cheering and behind their team the whole game. That doesn't happen at Clarke. Nobody really tries to get the crowd involved, not even the band. Yes, we have a student section that sometimes gets vocal, but not much. There's no real spirit in the community, and that bothers me. Maybe if some of the players on the sidelines could wave their arms to encourage the crowd to make some noise, it would get better. I dunno. I do know there needs to be a semblance of cooperation between the band and the team, and there is none.

I agree with most of your point in regards to the fan base and community and I truly chalk it up to being "spoiled" with winning and I mean that in a nice way and not negative. Simply put-Our community is used to winning and think that its going to be the case by simply showing up and playing. Quite frankly, it isn't easy winning over 100 games/8 district championships/4 state qtr finals/state runner in the past decade which Clarke has been able to do. A lot of hard work and dedication by players/coaches/parents has gone into it and people have a tendency to overlook those things (which is natural-I guess?). And sadly, when communities such as Luray come to town they show our community how it is supposed to be done (ie. Union).
Just a humble opinion from someone who has lived here a long time..........Good luck to Luray this week
