The poster the goatfromjmu made a statement that the entire State hates the Tri-River district, so with that being said I wonder if any officials feel the same way ? I would like to compare the penalty rate between districts and certain teams before I pass judgement.

It also bothers me that his statement seem to be geared toward the fact that the Tri- Rivers is majority African American I pray this is not his reason but he has refused to state why ? So he opens the door for assumptions, when he does reply I'm sure he will blame me , but for the record I'm a Caucasian who loves the aggressive play of Tri-Rivers football and THE SUSSEX CENTRAL TIGERS !

I believe he is from Riverheads, or at least this Augusta county area. I wasn't there but wasn't there a huge problem in a game years ago between the two? Like fighting and game being called early? Just what I thought I had heard and remembered bit could be wrong

Sussex and Riverheads? I don't remember that. Last year's championship went very well between the two. There was some infighting on the Sussex side due to frustration, which was almost understandable.

I vaguely remember some shenanigans at a Franklin game with Sussex or Surry. Then there was a state semi-final between Fort Chiswell and Essex that got dicy.

The game between Rivershead and Sussex was played with great sportsmanship it was very clear the Big Red Machine was the better team. Nothing but respect for Gladiators from Tiger country ! But my question is are the officials quick to flag teams from Tri -Rivers district ?

I vaguely remember hearing about that too. I think it was in the State Semis in 2006 at Sussex. I was not there, but I seem to remember hearing that the game was stopped early due to fighting.

Totally False there has never been a game called between Rivershead and Sussex, but there was a cooling off period between Sussex and Surry in a heated yearly rivalry game.

I just remember the story I was told, and that person I thought said Sussex, but I could be remembering wrong. It wasn't this past year, but if I remember correctly (even if the team was wrong) was it was one of the years Riverheads won championship, and it was in final minute or 2 with game in hand and Riverheads players were getting mauled after play with punches and kicks.

I wasn't making a statement, it was a question since I didn't know. The person who told me is a very honest guy, and would have no reason for animosity. Maybe it was another team and I remembered the wrong one

Maybe it was another team but I heard the same as you, and I'm thinking it was Sussex, but maybe it was Surry in 2000? Hopefully someone from the Riverheads faithful can answer this for us

This post is about Tri-Rivers schools. Essex is not a Tri-Rivers District School. Essex is a Northern Neck District school. As for the Ft. Chiswell/Essex game...it was a handful of Essex supporters as well as some Ft. Chiswell fans. If I remember correctly, the local police had to escort the refs off the property because a bunch of Fort fans were angry and waiting on them to come out of the field house.

I believe the game that no one can recall happened at Franklin in 2010. View the link:

Could be, but the story I remember being told was game was stopped in the last bit of game because players were being attacked after play. It could have been this game (I thought I remembered Sussex, but I could be wrong or person telling me could have gotten team wrong) but it was at end of game

Surry 2000

I believe you are referring to the game with WP, when Fulks told our kids to get on the bus and we left in the 3rd qtr. I think it was. And yes it was bad scene and did not help with the way people view the Tri-River District.

I was referring to Riverheads and now understand it was Surry in 2000. Are Surry and Sussex Central close to each other?

Didn't Sussex and Park View (South Hill) have a dust up in a football game a couple or so seasons ago? Didn't Park View suspend its basketball program last year due to a brawl in the bleachers at Brunswick?

Oh I remember that well! Wild times....A volunteer Tappahannock fireman and I had to run those poor scared refs (from Winchester) from the field house through that crazed, rabid mob of Fort fans to an ambulance I think, then the cops escorted them out of town. We were one one punch away from all out anarchy.

Let me say I was shocked - John Battle, Altavista, Haysi were awesome friendly Western folks...

Surry High and Sussex High are about 35 minutes apart.

Was there ever an issue with Sussex central?
Sussex and Riverheads have never shown any disrespect for each other . Surry in 2000 at Smithfield got a little heated and the game was called a couple min. shy of the buzzer . There was no fighting among players . The law lined the middle of the field and kept order while the buses were loaded. Franklin tried put the fear in our boys during pregame in 2010 . That did not work so well for them . Eastern teams prepare or get up for a contest a little different than Riverheads . Casto gets his kids focused and whatever he does , it seems to work .

I wouldn't say all Eastern teams prepare or get up for games by trying to put fear in the opposing teams. I'm willing to bet that 99% don't try to do that.

RHS has only played a hand full of of Eastern teams , so you might be right ! The ones we have played stand out as teams that try that stuff ! It's all in good fun but most of the time works against them .jmo

I was at the 2010 riverheads game at franklin the a game was not stopped riverheads won franklin wasn't trying to intimidate them that's just the way we warm up just keeping a hostile environment that's all some teams are soft and fold under pressure.

As you can see -- many people have fond memories of the tri-rivers...

It has zero to do with race....

You look at teams like Gretna and AltaVista who are predominately African American and you don't have these same negative factual events that happened and people recall.

Crawl back under your rock sir !

I will make a rare post that's not about a score or rescheduled game.
While I was not witness to this, in 2006 Franklin came to Tappahannock and their players tried to intimidate Essex by stomping on the E at midfield and pointing at Essex players and saying who knows what. What did the Broncos get for that? A 54-20 beatdown.
The only time I witnessed any pre-game outrageousness was in 2008 when Essex went to Gretna for the state semifinals. Essex was warming up and an Gretna player stood along the Hawks sideline yelling who knows what at the Essex players. I found it amazing that Gretna's coach staff did nothing to prevent this.

The Franklin coach joined the players in their pre game rant . This took place before the refs were on the field . After the refs showed up the Broncos got a lesson in Red Pride Football . lol Franklin never lost their composure , but it was'nt fun for them !
