Skyline trailed 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, but then scored 48 unanswered points on the way to a 54-8 rout of Meridian on homecoming.

Junior QB Aidan Vaught ran for 205 yards and passed for 187 more, scoring twice on the ground and twice through the air.

The Hawks took the opening kickoff and scored 5 plays later on a Tyson Funk 8 yard touchdown run. However, Meridian used a nice return by Duke Dawson and a horse collar penalty against the Hawks to start their first possession at the Skyline 33. Omar Dabbourah was the leading back on the Mustangs first drive and punched it in from 3 yards out to put Meridian up 8-6.

The score remained the same until the 10:44 mark of the 2nd quarter when Vaught ran it in from 2 yards out to put the Hawks up 13-8.

Skyline extended the lead to 20-8 on a 17 yard run by Alijah James. That was the score going into the halftime break.

Skyline's first play offensive play of the 2nd half was a 54 yard touchdown pass from Vaught to Isaiah Maxwell. Then after a quick Meridian fumble, Vaught aired it out again, hitting Funk on a 62 yard touchdown pass. Cole Britton's 5 yard touchdown run on the next possession put the Hawks up 41-8 and on the 2nd play of the Hawks' next possession, Vaught ran it in from 59 yards out, to make it 48-8 with 11:48 left in the game.

Vaught was done for the night, so Dustin Gue took over on the next possession and ran it 6 times before pushing it in from 1 yard out with 4:35 remaining. That gave the Hawks their final score of 54-8. Gue had 66 rushing yards on the night, much of it coming on that last drive.

The Hawks move to 3-3 on the year. They travel to William Monroe next week to take on the Dragons.
