Big Results from Last night.

Robert E. Lee 1-0 Mason: I have said all season there were cracks in the shiny GM armor. I did not expect them to get knocked out yet though. Lee must have played one heck of a game.
Maggie Walker 7-0 Prince Edward: I was right on GM...totally off base on Maggie Walker. I'll admit that. Look for them in Radford.
Nandua 5-3 Goochland:
Stuarts Draft and Central-Woodstock will paly tonight.

West time.
Giles 8-0 Dan River: Dan River was not prepared for this matchup. Immaturity in the level of play came through.
Lebanon over VA High: These two winner will play. (I have misplaced my score)
Appomattox 3-2 James River in OT: I picked this one incorrectly. From what I've seen this season, James River is the second best team week in week out. Not now though.
Graham 4-0 John Battle: Fully expected this result. Graham has not had to play a true quality opponent in a while. That will change Wednesday. Should be an excellent matchup.

Even thought they loss to a solid Giles squad, proud of the season the Wildcats, best record on school history (13-5). Will have to replace leaders on defensive end though.

JR lost the lead on one of those self inflicted goals, never should have been tied up in regulation but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes, literally. Had a substitution not been made (JR) I honestly believe the tying shot would have never occurred. I don't think Giles will have any trouble with them if they meet up.

I think Graham and Appo will be a good game. I think all four region semi's will be great actually. But I was holding out hope to see JR playing tomorrow. Lebanon is an interesting matchup with Giles too. Both are big possession teams.

Good luck to Giles the rest of the way!

Lee played an excellent game against Mason. They put pressure on the Mason defense, moved the ball laterally, hitting the open man and clogged up their defensive third. They had a goal waived off due to a foul in the area on a corner and then scored at about the 20 minute mark -- a well struck shot from about 8 yards out. Mason had a few chances to tie, but never seriously challenged the Lee goalkeeper. I was impressed that Lee in the second half didn't sit on their lead but kept putting the pressure on. Mason's keeper had to make two good saves to keep his team in the game.
Maggie Walker should win because of the size and depth, especially since they'll be playing at home, but definitely they shouldn't take Lee for granted. In fact, if Lee plays like they did on Monday, the have every chance in the world. The question is will they be able to stand up to Walker's physicality.

I wish the Lee the best of luck. They can hang with Maggie Walker. I wouldn't expect a blow out either way.
Stuarts Draft moves on after a 2-0 win over Central Woodstock. I was thinking this would be a wake up call for Draft, but they were already woke!

According to the Northern Virginia Daily Central had several good chances. The Draft Keeper saved a penalty in the game's first minute and then Central missed a wide open goal early in the second half that would have tied the score. Both Central and Mason had good defenses this year and could hold possession for long periods -- both team just had problems getting the ball into the net.

As for Maggie Walker, they are a very physical team. They play like professionals in that they are not afraid to make hard tackles and take "tactical" fouls to stop an opponents offense. Also, away from the ball they do a lot of arm grabbing, shirt tugging and body blocking to stop the ball handler from having open options. In the Mason/Walker game the refs missed most of that because, of course, they were focused on the ball and not what was going on away from the ball.

Giles 6-0 Lebanon: his was a team unprepared for this game. 3 goals in the opening 8. Giles kind of took the 2nd half off. Got a lot of rest.
Appomattox 3-1 Graham: Graham was over-rated to begin with. They could not have come in second in either Appo or Giles' conference. It caught up tonight.
Stuart's Draft 2-0 Nandua: I can not wait to see Draft play next Friday. I hope I is a Draft/Giles match. That would be fantastic!
Maggie Walker 1-0 Robert E. Lee: All credit to RE Lee. They had an amazing season. Knocked off one of the best and took the number 2 to the wire.

I love how everytime u mention a game against Giles the other team is either not ready or not prepared for the game. Maybe once u should just give credit to a team that is 19 and 0. That might have something to do with it.

Giles goes in as #1 seed in state Tournament after beating a tough Appo team tonight. Region champs, congrats boys. 20 and 0

I stand by my statements. I am not insulting your team. Far from it. If you hadn't just crawled out of the woodwork when a modicum of success had been found, you would see that I have been relaying Giles' success all season. But more importantly, are you really say any postseason game up until last night was a true quality opponent? If you do, you are wrong. Last night they had to play smart, tough, and efficient soccer. They had not had to do that in a long time.

I have watched your post all season, it's been the same. JR was supposed to be good in your eyes until Giles smoked them everytime. Number 1 seed for a reason, we just go with that.

Giles deserves the #1 seed no doubt about it they have a very good squad, had it not been for a freak goal by Appomattox late to tie the game Giles and JR round 4 would have been a likely outcome. Don't know that round 4 would have been different than the first 3, 2 starters played sick in round 3 which didn't help things. Good luck to Giles in the state tourney

Quick question, how freakish was the goal scored by Appo? It seems to be a major point of contention of a 3-2 game from the JR POV, meaning that 2 other goals were scored by Appo as well. Give the boys credit, they won the next round and gave Giles a heck of a game.

From other reports, the first goal scored by JR in the Appo game was deflection off the wall on a set piece. Karma maybe?

I stand by saying that James River (and Graham to a lesser extent) were quality teams. However, the best two teams made the Region final without a doubt. No one left the game thinking Appo isn't a great squad. But now things get really sticky. Winning the West is great, but history shows it doesn't always translate well to playing in the state games. No matter the matchup both teams had better play their best soccer.

Stuart's Draft is undefeated and Maggie Walker has beaten 5A and 4A teams, so, yes, the State Tournament is going to be a hard fought contest of wills. One bad game and you're out.

This time of year, there aren't bad teams. Some may be slightly better yes, but it really boils down to mistakes, limit your own and capitalize on the opponents. As for the East vs. West - facts are facts.

JR's first goal was off of a free kick after a trip or some other penalty by Appomattox, it was a shot down the middle about halfway between midfield and the box that may or may not have been deflected by an Appomattox player, I couldn't tell from my angle. Appomattox tying goal came on a deep cross that was deflected off JR defender near endline outside of net area that trickled into the goal. Goalie was lined up for the save but ball never got to him. Karma or bad luck?, just one of those points that you hate to see happen for any team especially at this point in the season. Appomattox was definitely the better team in OT and won the game.
