As it is now November and we are approaching Thanksgiving I just wanted to say I am thankful for all of you posting and providing a great place to talk and discuss high school football. I love the game and love seeing everyone’s input. I especially love hearing about Salem as that is my hometown. I also love hearing about the teams in the Winchester area just as much. Winchester has a special place in my heart as I lived there for almost a year and a half. I wish your teams good luck the rest of the way whether your season concludes tommorow night or if you will be competing this year in the playoffs. Thank you all for providing a great place for myself and many others to get great information from all over the state about this great game of football. I appreciate you all!

And also, in addition to my last message, to any athlete that may have their season end tommorow night or earlier than they would like to in the playoffs. Especially if you are a senior. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy that it happened! You all are special human beings and you have made your community proud. You give your communities a lot of joy!

And thank you sir, for bringing your insights and passions to us through your eloquent writing. It’s always a pleasure to read your post.

Though I never lived in Winchester, I’m sort of from there. My mother, and her family for several generations before my mother lived in Berryville. I still have many kin folks in and around that area. If you ever see the name Dorsey anywhere, they are my kin somewhere along the line.

And I second your Thanksgiving wishes. Many people that I’ve met through this forum have become great friends, and I think of them as family.

Thank you man! With me living in Lynchburg now I do plan to go to the 4A and 3A state game this year. If Dinwiddie makes it to states and you attend the game, it would be a pleasure to meet you and share fellowship with you. That goes to anyone’s team that may make it to the 4A or 3A title game. If anyone would like to talk and possibly sit together at the game it would be a pleasure to meet any of you all. Love you all!

And to the Dinwiddie faithful, I want to say I really admire the coach you all have in Coach Mills. I’ve watched some YouTube videos of him picking his players up when they have lost their last game of the season. I can feel the love he has in those players. He is a special man. I have never met Coach Mills, but I can see and feel how special he is. I know those players are greatful and thankful to have him as their coach and friend on and off the field

It’s pretty much a tradition for the Va Prep posters to gather for a meet and greet at LU. Usually we use Mike Salem as the gathering point. (He tends to attract all of the gorgeous women). If you haven’t been to a game at LU, you are in for a treat. Great venue, managed by friendly competent people.

Good to know. I was at LU last year for the Salem/Phoebus game. Also went in 2014 to the Salem/Lake Taylor game. Me being a 2015 graduate of Salem it was great seeing my buddies battle it out in the state game for their final high school game

I was at the 2013 game, of course, but also at the 2014 game, among several others. Bleeding Navy and I try to make the trip whenever we can.

Talking about making friends through football, I happened to be sitting behind a family at a championship game that were there to support Magna Vista. I can’t remember exactly which year it was, but I think they played Lafayette? Anyway, never one to shy away from striking up a conversation, I got to know several of the family members, and that has started a life long friendship. Distance keeps us from physically getting together very often, but we stay in touch and keep up with each other’s family life. As good friends do, we laugh and joke about the good times, and share tears about the sad times. And all of this, simply because we both love high school football.

And yes sir, we have a legendary Coach, even though he still has a lot of years left in him to enhance that legacy.

We also have an assistant Coach that is pretty legendary in his own right, Coach Dave Davis.
He, like Coach Mills are just good old, “tough as nails”, Southwestern Virginia boys with hearts of gold.
