So pretty much all of my preseason picks on the Valley District have been way off. I thought Broadway and Waynesboro would be the favorites, and both lost last night to Lee and Harrisonburg. Broadway's loss comes after they were in a battle with Fort defiance, where they only won by 2 points. I understand a win is a win, but yikes. Lee just lost to TA by 1 last week, and Waynesboro came back to beat Spotswood by less than a score so that tells me that the Valley may be WIDE open this year and 1-6 can beat each other on any given night.

The only thing I feel certain of is that Fort will not win the district, but at this point I think every other team has a chance. If I had to rank it right now based off what we have seen I'd go:
1. Harrisonburg
2. Waynesboro
3. Spotswood
4. T.A.
5. Lee
6. Broadway
7. Fort

They are all terrible when compared to 4-5 years ago when Hburg and TA were very strong..... I think at BEST you get one playoff win from the group.

I agree it is wide open. Prior to last night, I would have thought Waynesboro would have the best shot, especially with a healthy Baker back in the line-up. But the loss to H'burg has opened it up again and like you said, anybody could win it now.

I suppose after last night a re-rank would look something like this:
1. Harrisonburg
2. TA
3. Lee
4. Waynesboro
5. Spotswood
6. Broadway
7. Fort

The Lee/Waynesboro game did not go over like I thought it would. I had Waynesboro favored in a close game, but ended up being a 55-20 Lee win. We had a running clock in the 4th.
Lee was up 20-14 at the half, but it seemed like Waynesboro should have been in the lead at that point, but some failures on special teams in the second half helped the Leemen pull away.

The kickoff to start the second half was returned for a touchdown, as Waynesboro tried an onside kick and the kid who recovered it (Dee Chisley) took it to the house. The next possession, Waynesboro when 3 and out and had the punt blocked and returned for a touchdown and you could see them deflate from that point.

Interesting fact about this city/city rivalry... Waynesboro has only beaten the Leemen 2 times since 1990 (if my records are correct).

Something that really surprised me last night was Waynesboro. I thought they would rule the Valley District and the SAW area this year, but they have taken a few steps back this year. You can tell they have some tools to be good but effort and consistency seem to be killing them this year

If TA can find any kind of consistent defense it will come down to Harrisonburg visiting TA the last game of the year.
It's a shame TA's Fridley doesn't have more size or he could play D1 football at QB..he's pretty impressive.
