Thursday’s Games (10/15/15):

Lafayette (6-0) at Poquoson (5-1) . . . These two teams got closer calls than they expected a week ago with Lafayette staying unbeaten with a 37-28 victory over Grafton, getting a touchdown from Caleb Kraegbenbrink with 1:50 to go to pull away, while Poquoson needed a field goal in double-overtime to edge Warhill 19-16. In the head-to-head series, Lafayette has won three in a row in by a combined margin of 116-40. Nobody has been able to effectively slow down Andy Linn’s Rams this season as they are averaging 46.8 points and 353.7 total yards per game.

Poquoson counters with a stout defense, giving up just 7.2 points per game with three straight shutouts to start the season. They don’t have the star names on both sides of the ball that Lafayette possesses, but QB Trey Hicks (45 of 79 for 652Yds. 8-0TD/Int. ratio) and WR Matt Blaser (22Rec. 348Yds. 4TD’s) have been steady on offense. Defensively, DL Brandon Peck, LB’s Kyle Poultney and Robert Henesey, and safety Trevor Dunagan have stepped up at different times throughout the year.

Lafayette fullback John Douglass will be out with a high ankle sprain, but that shouldn’t matter a ton given that the Rams are averaging 239.8 rushing yards per game with the Kraegenbrink brothers, Kyle Johnson and Armonii Burden all serving as capable weapons out of the backfield. Plus, QB Chase Pine (37 of 69 for 680Yds. 9-1TD/Int. ratio) has been very solid running or passing this year with reliable targets to go to through the air in Tyrek Graham (17Rec. 313Yds. 4TD’s) and Hezekiah Grimsley (11Rec. 275Yds. 2TD’s), a breakout player in all three phases in the Bay Rivers this year.

Kecoughtan (2-4) at Warwick (1-5) . . .
Each of the past two years, Kecoughtan has shut out Warwick; 47-0 last season and 13-0 in 2013. Will much change this season? Probably not since Warwick has been blanked in three of their last four games. The one time that they did score in that stretch was a lopsided 42-6 defeat suffered at the hands of Phoebus. Meanwhile, the Warriors have suffered three losses by four points or less to Granby (the most perplexing of them all), Bethel and Phoebus. Their 39-19 setback against Hampton last week was the biggest loss margin-wise to date.

Tailback Jacione Fugate (83Car. 491Yds. 6TD’s) of Kecoughtan is fourth in the Peninsula District in rushing yards, whereas counterpart Demonte Good (99Att. 470Yds. 3TD’s) from Warwick ranks fifth in that category. Raiders QB D.J. Nunn has passed for 278 yards and 4TD’s, but has thrown a PD-high seven picks and will have to be careful against a secondary that has dangerous guys on the back end in Fugate and Kaleb Tucker. On the other side, Warwick is allowing over 60% completions, so that could mean good news for Warriors QB Desmond Savage, WR Keith Grandy (4TD’s) and TE Tyler Crist (15Rec. 233Yds. TD).

Matt Says: Kecoughtan 34-10
