Southampton coach Littleton Parker had few ways to attack the Tiger defense.

COURTLAND- Southampton came into Friday night with a two game winning streak and plenty of confidence in their rushing attack. The rushing attack led by Tayriel Ruffin has been dominating on offense while the top recruited player in the area leads their defense in Tyran Hunt. The Indians have a lot to be happy about but opening night versus Sussex Central wouldn’t be one of those times.

Both teams came in eager to stop the others rushing attack and only one was truly successful. The Tigers started the game with the ball and steadily moved the ball versus the Indians 8-man front. The 5:36 drive ended with Malik Delk throwing out in the flat to running back Trevon Hatch who made a great finger tip catch for a 10-yard touchdown reception.

After Southampton couldn’t generate any offense, the Tigers got back to business and the Indians defense was caught napping. Running back Mack Prosise hit the hole extremely quick and blazed down the visitor’s side of the field for a 54-yard touchdown. The Tigers led 12-0.

Trevon Hatch is sprung by some good blocking to set up a Tiger touchdown.

Coach Curtis Jefferson would turn to quarterback Clyde Edmonds in the 2nd quarter as he would hit Alec Bailey for a nice read over the middle for a 17-yard touchdown pass. And after recovering a squib kick it would be Edmond hitting Amari Hill for a 13-yard catch to make it 26-0 Sussex Central with 3:18 left in the 2nd.

Hill would strike again as Southampton quarterback Aj Blunt would throw a backwards pass that could be handled and Hill would scoop it up and go all the way for a 75-yard touchdown. Sussex Central would lead at the half 32-0 with the game locked down.

Rough night for Tayriel Ruffin. The Indians led back was held in check all night.

Southampton would get a score in the 4th when Blunt would go in from 2-yards out to avoid the shut out with 5:55 left in the game. Next week Southampton will host Brunswick while Sussex Central travels to Windsor.

The Tigers held the larger Southampton squad to 52 yards rushing on 38 attempts while the Tigers rushed for 206 yards.
