A player has a firm grasp of ball and is sliding on floor for about 10 feet. Is this traveling ?

That depends on what the player did PRIOR to sliding with the ball. A player may dive for a loose ball and slide with it while in control and not commit a violation. A player may NOT be in control of the ball and then fall to the floor, sliding or not. This would be a traveling violation. Also, in the legal version above, with the player diving for the loose ball and sliding with it, this player may make a pass, shoot, start a dribble, or call a time out. If on his back, he may sit up, but any attempt to get to his feet, unless dribbling, would be a violation. If on stomach, he may not roll over to his back. This is found in NFHS Casebook 4.44.5 (B)

Thanks, that rule is almost as confusing as "blocking/charge" rule. But on the play in question I saw, it looks as if refs got it right IAW rule.

While I don't see what you feel is confusing about the original post here...relative to many other plays during a course of a basketball game...the block/charge and some others are hard for most folks to grasp clearly. Guess if it was easy, you could get volunteers from the crowd to ref and save the school budgets a bit... there certainly always seems to be plenty of them at the ready
