Tweeking of Realignment After Appeals

It likely wont matter for Grayson next cycle. If recent enrollment trends continue, they will be below the Class 1 threshold by then if they aren't already.

You move up or down for one reason, and one reason only, ADM number.

The alignment committee divides the schools into 6 classes. The original division is into 6 classes, as evenly divided as is possible, but their are always a couple of adjusments due to errors in the originally reported ADM's.

Just because you want to play up or down, has zero bearing. The ADM numbers are not disregarded. You are either above or below a matmatically calculated cut number.

Can you imagine the Pandora's box of request if they set a precedent and allow just one school to move up or down "because they want to!"

if you want some real talk - it is all about basketball. The BB folks think that the Jayem C2 path maybe too easy to impress the college scouts. I disagree because their preseason is filled with national power house teams so the scouts see all they need to see by Christmas. The regular season will, also, be the same as they will not be changing districts.

Like you said that would open a Pandora box. Highland Springs football really should be C6. You can say the same about Godwin baseball, Patrick Henry (Ashland) volleyball and George Wythe (Wytheville) golf. To do so, however, would be at the peril of all the other kids playing all the other sports.

More real talk:
the folks who love JMHS basketball could care less about football as well as all the other sports played there - so take their opinions with a grain of salt.

Wanting to challenge yourself and save money (logistics) isn't a bad idea especially one division.

Playing down should never be considered.

Playing down should never be considered.

It depends on the circumstance and how "playing down" is defined. In the case of Grayson County, the March 2018 ADM figures indicate they have an enrollment of 489, down from 507 the previous cycle. Less than a decade ago, Grayson was at or above 600. The enrollment has been shrinking by an average of 8% per year for the past decade.

Grayson began the 2018-2019 school year with roughly 450 students if recent reports are accurate. Playing down wouldn't exactly be "playing down" by definition for them. They belong in Class 1 and will be in Class 1 next cycle. Not much that can be done for the current cycle though.

I believe what he is talking about is a team that is and should be in 2a being in 1a. That would be playing down.

So in the next 2 years Grayson would be 2a, but IIRC, the classification can be changed in 2 years based on current ADM.

Up until a few years ago teams were allowed to play up. And it created screwed up numbers in classifications and regions.

Per Galax Gazette comment by Grayson Super...after 10-day attendance period HS enrollment 447 and will be heading down
Grayson's placement is correct based on March numbers - many schools will have different numbers in two years. Bassett appealed their classification and won because they changed classes based on one student.

Nobody is disputing that! Not even Grayson. But next cycle, Grayson is already well within the Class 1 threshold.

Radford high School played up for years. When they should have been 1a and stayed 2a. I am not sure if it was travel reasons or what.

If I'm not mistaken, Radford is one of those teams that is inelligble for the playoffs because they do not play their full district schedule? Although, I may be confusing them with Rappahannock or Rappahannock county?

I think Chincoteague is another?

Not Radford. Rappahannock county is 1B and were out last year being ineligible, which allowed 0-10 Stonewall in

Nelson County also applies

Rapp county, Nelson, and chincoteague. I believe Cumberland used to but they play within their district now. A little surprised Stonewall-quicksburg hasnt dropped to an independent schedule. Wouldn't surprise me to see several more in the near future like Bruton and Manassas park.

I have no idea how their teams do in sports other than football, but Bruton should probably consider joining the Tri-Rivers District. Most of the schools there are more similar in enrollment, but I understand the desire to continue in their traditional district

Or revive the Peanut District: Bruton, Poquoson, Windsor, Southampton. King William?
