FIRST TEAM ALL REGION & POY: Curtis Keys, South Lakes; Ryan
Davenport, Langley; Marquel DeLancey, Mt. Vernon; Anthony Winbush, TC Williams;
Justin May, Chantilly; POY - Maurice Hubbard

Triple A - Preseason Rankings

Central: 1)
Highland Springs, 2) Petersburg, 3) Huguenot, 4) LC Bird, 5) John Marshall, 6)
Dinwiddie, 7) Hermitage, 8) Deep Run, 9) Armstrong, 10) Cosby

Northern: 1.
T.C. Williams - Waltzed through the Region last year, so #1 until someone
dethrones them. With Winbush and Jenkins back, they have a pretty good duo to
start with and add in a pretty good sophomore Ryan Yates and you have our #1
pre-season team.

2. Lake Braddock - One of the region's best coaches has experimented since his
arrival on Burke Lake Road and just might have the right formula this time
around. With two year starter, Dom Morra back at the point for a 3rd season and
senior Haben Petros in the post, the Bruins should give T.C. a run for the
district title.

3. W.T. Woodson - No need to scout this team if your the opposing coach, what
you saw the last two years, you will see again. A team running the same
structured offense and controlling the tempo of the game. What is different is
sophomore Lenox moves to the point to give the Cavaliers a more athletic
defender and one who has the ability to get to the hole. Junior swing man
Stephen Stepka and senior center Greg Whitaker will make them the early favorite
in the Liberty District.

4. South Lakes - New coach Darryl Branch has been chomping at the bit to get his
hands on this team. Branch had great success as a JV coach, but it is a
different world at the varsity level. Still, he was able to experiment at the JV
level so look for a different style of play than we have seen in the past from
the Seahawks. We look for them to be more uptempo and playing more pressure on
the defensive end. Lack of height is the biggest concern with South Lakes. Combo
guard Curtis Keys is one of the best guards in the region and he has become a
very good shooter with range, and can also get to the cup. A.J. Price has had a
fantastic year on the football field with offers from UVA, Michigan and Penn
State. If Price brings some of his football toughness to the basketball court,
Branch could be in the Patriot Center in his first season.

5. Westfield - This team might make us look foolish by their position in our
pre-season poll. That statement actually works both ways, as they could be
contenders for the region title, or they could end up in the lower end of the
top 10. Hubbard is tough around the rim and there isn't a better rebounder in
the region, but rumor has it he will move to the 3 taking him away from the rim.
Westfield's biggest question is guard play, Brian Kennedy is a terrific
defender, but a huge weakness on the offensive end where opposing teams don't
even guard him and Jamie Richardson was inconsistent last season. Westfield will
need stronger guard play and will need to find someone who can shoot the ball
from the perimeter if they want to get to the Patriot Center. However, Flint
Hill transfer Peter Scanlon could add the shooting touch they need.

6. Chantilly - We might have them a little high, but this isn't a strong year
for the Northern Region. That comment isn't a slight at the Chargers, it just
means they might be a year away. The Chargers have very good young players and
if they can mesh then they will be in contention with we think with Westfield
and Herndon for the Concorde District title. Junior Justin May is a very good
two guard who can score in bunches. Freshman John Manning (6'9") is going
to be a high major recruit before it is all over (he was the guest of UVA this
past Sunday for their home opener), if Manning can become an impact player as a
freshman, then the Chargers might be on track to make noise this season. The
Chargers also have two other incoming young guards who we believe will compete
for varsity playing time this year as well. Keep an eye on this team not only
this season for the next several.

7. Mt. Vernon - A team that hasn't made it very far in post-season play in many
years. The Majors have one of the best guards in the region in ODU signee
Marquel DeLancey and a fleet of other small quick guards. How well sophomore
Skylar Jones recovers from knee surgery might dictated the fortunes of this
team. The Majors is our favorite to win the National District in 07-08.

8. Herndon - Gary Hall left a pretty empty cupboard on his way out the door, but
transfers sure helped first year coach Chris Whelan out. Another Lucas returns
to the Hornets nest in the nick of time as did the transfer from O'Connell and
Joey Marianette who moves over from Westfield. Look for Herndon to surprise some
teams this season.

9. Hayfield - The Hawks were very young last season and first year coach Ron
Palmer who had tremendous success in California takes over a team with some
experience under its belt, even if the team is still young. The entire backcourt
returns in Atkins, Wilson and Riggins, but depth and shooting could haunt the
Hawks. Coach Palmer found a post player in the building who did not play last
two years in Vincent Taylor. If Palmer can mix in some of his California magic,
the Hawks Nest might be buzzing once again.

10. Edison, Lee, West Potomac and Wakefield all come to mind in this slot.

Eastern: 1. Bethel,
2. Nansemond River, 3. Booker T. Washington, 4. Norcom, 5. Ocean Lakes, 6. Norview,
7. Oscar Smith, 8. King's Fork, 9. Landstown, 10. Tie - Hampton & Tallwood, Honorable Mention: Kecoughtan

Northwest - 1. George Washington,
2. Potomac, 3. Freedom, 4. William Fleming, 5. Brooke Pointe, 6. Forest Park, 7.
North Stafford, 8. Osbourn, 9. Patrick Henry (Roanoke), 10. Albemarle. HM:
Loudoun Valley, Colonial Forge, C.D. Hylton
