If you got a chance to see, did GW improved during the season.
GW’s a relatively young team. They played competitively with Dinwiddie for a half and didn’t quit when they went down big, beat two very solid teams in Amherst and Glass, handily. I think the Magna Vista win was probably their biggest win. GW has a 3 year starter at QB, two very good RBs and athletic receivers who do damage by committee. Think their biggest attribute is their offensive and defensive lines. They are huge. If they can get over the “Salem Mental Hurdle”, they’re going to put Danville back on the map.

I thought the Amherst and GW game was 17-12 in 4th..Not sure thats winning handily

I imagine the official point ratings should be released sometime today. If I’m not mistaken, after the final week of the regular season don’t they usually release the playoff brackets by like Saturday evening or Sunday morning? I know there will be some games on Saturday with key playoff implications

If those points are relatively close (or dead on) I wonder if it's possible for Salem to take the 3 seed from Sherando with a Handley victory this Friday.

I believe JF is the best team in the region and should win the region. They run the ball well and play really good defense. Now, whether they will win the region or not remains to be seen. They are two blown coverages away from being undefeated right now.

I have very little knowledge of the abilities of most of the teams in Region D. I am very familiar with two of the contenders in GW Danville and Salem. If GW can play mistake free football they surely have a chance. Especially playing at home. I understand many of the Salem fans being discouraged over the defense; however, their two losses have been to undefeated teams. @Pioneers02Champs, just curious. What exactly does JD bring to the table that will present a problem for Salem and the other contenders in Region D? Thanks in advance.

How is JF up front? GW's strength is the D-line, so they've been pretty successful at stopping the run.

I ran the numbers.....If Handley wins and Sherando's defeated opponents handle there business....Salem will be 5th.

JF has a strong run game and a solid run defense. I am a firm believer that you have to do both well in order to be a contender at any level of football. Especially high school and more specific, in the JF's region. They are also disciplined and don't turn the ball over much or commit a lot of penalties.

JF’s OOD schedule is absolutely horrid. That’s not saying they’re not good, I just don’t think you can call a team who chose to schedule Halifax and Gretna serious about winning a state championship. I hope they have to play Salem in round 2 to EARN some real credibility.

GW will beat JF. GW’s schedule was much tougher than JF.

Amherst should have beaten JF. Heard it was a very bad call at the end.
A couple of things the call on the last drive that you reference was not bad. It was absolutely the right call. Amherst did not agree with the call that does not make it bad. The other point about schedule is also ridiculous from a GW stand point. JF plays in the seminole district not the piedmont district big difference. Jf plays LCA, Heritage, Amherst, Rustburg, Glass, and also scheduled Staunton River. Staunton River beat the second best team in the Piedmont. GW might beat JF but it is not because JF has not seen enough competition during the year.

For reference, I said heard.. I didn’t give a definitive take cause I wasn’t there.

Again, gotta read my posts my man. I said OOD. GW schedules who they can and doesn’t run from any competition. Definitely would’ve liked them to play JF, Fleming, Herirage or Botty instead of Staunton River but these things are scheduled 3-4 years in advance so it’s hard to gauge who’s gonna be good. Dinwiddie, Glass and Amherst > Gretna, Halifax any day. As far as the Piedmont goes, it is what it is. Magna Vista and Mecklenburg was good competition going into the playoffs.

Next year Martinsville is out of the Peidmont
GW will pick up Southern Alamance Botty William Fleming Glass and Amherst OOD they tried to work out a deal with JF but I think JF is playing Gretna on that date

GW did schedule a tough ood schedule and JF would do the same if they played in the piedmont. Jf does not play in the Piedmont they play in the Seminole district and every year that district is a meat grinder. The belief by seminole coaches is that if you survive the district healthy you have a shot to be practicing on Thanksgiving day. It is the opinion of the Jf powers that be that playing a harder non-district games would not help but actually hurt the team. Did JF play a tough schedule? The answer to that question is yes they will be battle tested. Has GW played a tough schedule and I would say they have so they are battled tested. How they got the tough games is irrelevant.

The fact that JF and Gretna are playing again for next cycle is crazy work.

Compare the two schedules and tell me which side wins more games?
On the left are Gw's and JF on the right. So tell me how GW has a harder schedule?

Gw vs JF
dinwiddie LCA
Magna Vista Heritage
Amherst Amherst
Glass Glass
Halifax Halifax
SR SR
Martinsville Brookville
Bassett Gretna
Mecklenburg Rustburg
Tustall Liberty

@BoKnowsSports and @jffootball23 you both have made valid points. I tend to lean towards Bo regarding scheduling tougher ood opponents, because it pays off in more ways than one. I will admit that the Seminole is a very tough district to maneuver and in most years most of the teams are playoff bound, so JF theory holds value. The difference is variety. By playing the same old district teams every year and beatable ood teams you don't get to see how your team will respond to the unfamiliar and an occasional smack in the mouth. It also provides additional rider points for a higher playoff seed if you defeat a quality opponent.

I have no clue who will win between GW and JF if they play, but what I do know is GW has used its tough ood schedule to put itself in position to play at home throughout the playoffs. Couldn't have been done without it. Good luck fellows.

I like this matchup. Gretna beat JF in Crews 1st year and in year 2 it took a 4th quarter drive, last years game was close. This year it was lopsided but JF got a ton of experience and teaching tape on pass defense as Gretna has a great passing game with one of the best qbs in the area. He is also a junior so he will be back next year. It is also a great power points game for JF as gretna usually wins 7-8 games each year.

This year's OOD schedule is the same as last year's for both teams. If OOD schedule was the deciding factor in who the better team was, the outcome would have been different in their playoff game last year. Every year and every team is different. That's why you play the game.

I personally think it will be GW and JF playing for the Region Championship. I haven’t seen GW play this year but I have seen JF play three times this year. I can say they have a QB that is very accurate. Their strong offensive line caters well to their option offense. It’s kind of like an option/misdirection offense. Looks like it can be pretty tough to prepare for.

I’m not so sure That you should discount your Spartans. I know that game against Pulaski was bad but the only two losses you have are two undefeated teams and you guys are known for getting better throughout the season. Don’t sell those guys short.
