RICHMOND -- A middle school wrestling coach has been charged with distributing anabolic steroids, Lancaster County officials said Tuesday.

Ben W. Hunter, 37, was arrested May 16 and charged with felony distributing narcotics to a minor, distributing anabolic steroids, child abuse or neglect and distributing narcotics within a school-safety zone, said Chief Deputy Martin Shirilla of the Lancaster Sheriff's Office.

Hunter was a part-time coach at Lancaster Middle School. His offenses are alleged to have occurred between June 1, 2004 and May 10.

Officials refused to give any details on the allegations Tuesday or of the investigation that led to the arrest.

Lancaster School Superintendent Randolph H. Latimore Sr. said Hunter will not be allowed to coach or to return to the school until after the case was resolved.

Hunter is free on bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 2 in Lancaster Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
