Former Robert E. Lee basketball star Jarvis Vaughan has made it official.

Vaughan, a 6-foot-9 forward who played this past season as a postgraduate with Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, signed his National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

The school announced the signing on Tuesday.

"We're super excited to add Jarvis to our program," said Monmouth coach King Rice. "He's a great kid and we can't wait to get him here."

Vaughan helped lead Lee High to a state championship in 2017 and a second-place finish in 2018. He verbally committed to Old Dominion while in high school, but never signed with the Norfolk school. Instead, he went to Massanutten Military and reopened his recruitment.

Vaughan was The News Leader's All-City/County Player of the Year in 2018 as a senior after scoring 17.8 points and pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game.

Monmouth is a Division I program and a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Rice, who played college basketball for the University of North Carolina, just finished his eighth season as Monmouth's head coach. Monmouth finished this past season 14-21, but put together a MAAC Tournament run that carried them to the championship game. Monmouth lost that game to Iona.
