I had originally posted on here that I thought there would be 6,000-8,000 people cheering on Glenvar Saturday. At the time I had been told that Glenvar would play at noon and Salem at 4.30pm thus allowing for Salem and Glenvar fans to attend both games. I would have been one paying for both along with other Glenvar people going with me.

There was a request this week from out local sportswriter to the VHSL to switch times for the Glenvar game to 12 noon for the obvious reasons. Since there is a 4.5 hour time difference and most games take about 2.5 hours total, that would have allowed people to see both even with the 1.5 hour drive to Lynchburg. This was denied by the VHSL without much explanation. I believe there would have been at least 1000-2000 people that would have paid to get into both games if you add lost revenue at both stadiums. In the end I believe the VHSL was worried about showing favoritism. They definitely had the "power" to do it since they move times all the time at the Spring Jubillee and it will cost them 10.000-20,000 dollars, not to mention the increased fan support in the stadium in both games

Because of that I will revise my prediction on people attending for Glenvar to 5,000-6,000 from 6,000-8,000.

Go Glenvar Highlanders!

Very stupid on the part of the VHSL......and I still think the games should alternate each year as well...early to late every other year....GO GILES

No, I think they were smart not to move them. They really don't want to be seen as providing an extra home field advantage for one or both teams by stacking the stadium with fans. The times have published for two years, and moving them now wouldn't have looked good, no matter how much money they would make. Once again, people who say everything the VHSL does is about money are way off base.

I agree on the rotation . play D1 first one year and 2nd the next . To have changed game times this late would have affected too many people .

Umm, aren't there 2 teams playing in this game? Many on the other side have known the normal scheduled start time, and have adjusted their lives for it. Changing the game time so local teams can make both games is a great idea from a money standpoint for VHSL, but the "away team" could possibly be affected due to scheduling. The 13 or 14 fans Wilson is bringing might have already had something scheduled. The team I am sure doesn't care who is in the stands, they just want to play the game.

They use to rotate the times. I remember when Gretna won it's first title against Monticello it was at night. The next year against Poquoson was during the day. I think it's a good idea to go back to that and rotate.
