Game Recap Walsingham Wins Thriller Over Hargrave Military

Jaylin Stewart scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the 4th quarter to send Walsingham Academy to a 80-75 VISAA DII Quarterfinals win over Hargrave Military Academy. The Trojans will face #1 seed Miller School in the State semi-finals at Virginia State University.

Walsingham led by 14 at halftime and led by 13 with 6:30 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Hargrave Military cut the lead to 56-49 heading into the 3rd quarter and they tied the game 61-61 with 5:42 to go in the game. Benson Lin scored 17 second half points including five treys to lead the Tigers comeback. Matthew Brown made three key steals on hustle plays.

Marcus Banks scored on a layup for Walsingham Academy after a free throw by Stewart but Brown tied the game at 64 with another three. Stewart scored the next eight points via strong moves to the basket and from the free throw line. His layup gave Walsingham Academy a 72-66 lead with under three minutes to go.

Hargrave Military Academy twice closed the lead to one on baskets by Brown and Camron McNeil but they couldn't convert on their scoring opportunities in the last minute and Walsingham came away with the win.

In addition to his game-high 29 points, Stewart also added four rebounds and four assists while finishing 9 of 11 from the free throw line. Banks added 26 points including 3 of 5 from behind the 3-point line. Sam Jones added 11 rebounds, six steals and six points while Philipp Waltz scored 13 points.

Lin was one of five players in double-figures leading the Tigers with 20 points. McNeil scored all 15 of his points in the 2nd half while adding four assists. Seneca Louis had 12 points, Korbin Spencer 11 points and Matthew Brown had 10 points off the bench. Maurice Wilcox led Hargrave Military with seven rebounds.
