Poquoson 19, 4A Warhill 9. Story of the game or a quick summary.....you guessed it by the score. Warhill unable to move the ball and Puquoson overwhelming on the line of scrimmage for the 4A Warhill team. Folks, I warned you about this before week 1. Puquoson is the real deal and on the line of scrimmage, other teams are in a mess when playing them.

Weren't the only team to beat a 4A equivalent, Union defeated Tennessee 6A Morristown West tonight.

Lafayette is, and always will be, 'Quoson's benchmark game. Win or lose, they will make some noise in C2 playoffs.

No question Lafayette is Poqousons benchmark game. I agree 100%. With that written, Lafayette would be 99% of the other AA team's in Va's benchmark game, if they were on those teams schedules.

Poquoson wouldn't beat Appomattox period. Haven't seen them live but have watched alot of footage of them. Reminds me of last year Stuart's Draft team. Got good power running but the speed of a team like Appomattox I think would be too much.

2A is way down this year and Poquson wont beat Lafayette or Appomattox. Wont even be close. Warhill is not a very good football team for being 4A.

Warhill is not known as a powerhouse in football, but they are having a fine season. They are an average 4A team, but that's an improvement. Appo is top tier in 2A, but not invincible. The point we're overlooking is Poquoson has to go through Goochland (or the other way around) first. Goochland is flexing muscle right now.

A very solid win for Poquoson...no, Warhill is not a great program, but they're having a good year in 4A. I think the Bulls get by Smithfield and lose to Lafayette...playoffs should be interesting.

Goochland isn't that good. Compare the 2 games between Buckingham and Appomattox and Buckingham and Goochland... Appomattox is far better. Goochland led 17-0 late in 4th and we actually had chances to put points on the board and still be in the game. Considering how bad we are coached and not having our best weapon playing help Goochland out. Thier schedule is weak and they will draw favorable match ups in the playoffs because of seeding but Goochland will get manhandled by Appomattox and they are the ultimate comparison in 2A. State Champion this year will have to beat Appomattox. I had Goochland as a favorite to start the season but after seeing them in person they aren't a threat to Appomattox.

You mean....."in your opinion," Poquoson wouldn't beat Appo. The real thing to point out in your statement is.....the standard for Poquoson is Appo. Interesting how you jumped directly to Appo for Poquoson's comparison. That's a pretty good sign, if you are a Poquoson fan. You didn't mention any of the other Class A schools in Virginia. Lets mention one though.....I think Poquoson would curbstomb or doggy-rape Buckingham County. I think we can agree to that one also....oh yea....."period."

Damn why so serious you sound so offensive. Appomattox is the cream of the crop and 2 time champ seriously great coached team. It's just my assessment, my opinion just like everyone else on here, but to try insult me with the lame Buckingham "doggy bowl" what ever shows just how soft you are if your team isnt view as top dog. Look at the thread and how its stated that all of 2A is under warning like no other 2A school could beat Warhill. Relax man lol (exclamation point)

I actually have Poquoson as one of the top 5 teams (Appomattox Poquoson Goochland Clarke and Union) just believe Appomattox speed will be too much for either one of them.

Historically when Poquoson plays teams in the playoffs that are "so much faster" than they are, they usually end up fairing pretty well. Their defense plays exceptionally good assignment football, they contain and they always seem to be in position to make a play. Yes they get scored on, yes they have lost games, but I surely wouldn't against them in any contest. JM just KNEW they were going to run roughshod over the Bulls a few years back and had a bevy of metaphores shoved right where the "sun don't shine"...I'm not claiming that Poquoson would or could beat Appo, I'm only offering my observation as Bay Rivers fan that has had to watch that team for the last 23 years (since I first settled in Smithfield). I don't know how they do it. Just do it. Their perseverance is unmatched here in the 757...strictly my opinion and observation, I truly have no dog in this fight...I can assure you they absolutely FEED off of the underdog status. Still quite a few games to play, so who knows how it all plays out. We are well on our to having several of these questions answered....save for the bevy of excuses that usually follow playoff loses from all sides.

Poquoson is currently leading all of 2A in power points and, with the exception of Clarke County, it's not even close...doesn't that say something for the schedule they've played to date? Has Appomattox and Goochland played anyone decent thus far, other than 3A Heritage, which resulted in a 17 point loss?

Classification is meaningless to be honest. Poquoson is getting the points because of the schedule true but not because the strenght of it. They could very well end up winning it all in the end. However until someone from 2A actually beats Appomattox (hell how about give them a close game lol) they are the team to beat.

I can agree with this because quite honestly, the only team to recently win a state title out of the Bay Rivers is in fact Poquoson. It isn't like we are setting the football world on fire with an array of state titles. Competitive district? Yes. Dominate? No.

Power points don't really measure how good a team is. It's simply W-L with a strength of schedule component. It does a decent job of distinguishing one 5-5 team from another 5-5 team but that's about it. Until the season is over, there will be a lot of movement in the power point ratings.

Care to elaborate?

Just look at how VHSL awards power points. They beat two teams that are 1-4 and they got 24 points beating each one. When I said classification is meanless I meant because they are beating 3A and 4A teams doesn't mean they would do the same to some of the really good 2A teams out there. They could be the real deal for all I know but we won't truly know until playoff time.

You simply can't dismiss classification in general...I get that the formula/equation is imperfect, but it's still a decent indicator of a team's worth.

Marion at 23 and Union at 22 arenr close? Lol you're wrong.

If Marion wins out, they will be the top team Pp wise
If Union wins out and Marion loses, it'll be Union.

can you explain how this is possible? i see they play gc(0-6, 2a), va( n/a,2a), richl (1-5, 2a), and grah(4-1, 2a)...i thought you only get 18pts for beating a 2a school(plus bonus), if clarke county who also plays all 2a , wouldnt it stand to reason that they would be on top PP?!,,,,can u help understand this better? thanks

question, if it is meaningless, why does the vhsl put a premium vs. input from fans/coaches for ex. ?! reading their website 'an approved rating scale has been developed for rating each team so that the top-rated teams will meet for each championship....",,,can you explain why this statement is false/inaccurate, just curious what 2a knows, could be something the rest of the state may want to hear about...thanks,,,,oh, one other point you brought up,,,since the team Appo is the 'gold' standard, i was looking at their record. It says they lost convincingly by almost 20pts to a school in newport news. however, when i checked that teams record and it said they had lost to a 4a school warhill. could you counter or shed some light so i understand better your ref....thanks again

Well Appomattox didn't lose to a team in Newport News, they lost to Heritage in Lynchburg.

As for the questions on ratings, it doesn't factor in at all how good the team they played is, just classification and win loss record. As an example, within the current standings, a team would receive MORE points for beating Pulaski over 2 time defending champion Salem. Salem may not be as good this season, Pulaski may be better, but they are in same district and Salem beat them bad last year. Or for an example in 2a, at this point, a team would receive MORE points from Floyd County over 2 time defending champion Appomattox. Also more points from either Nelson County or Strasburg than Richlands

It's not that hard when you figure it out. Point being that to talk about a schedule strength AND points it doesn't help. The power points are set by 2 factors only, opponents classification and opponents record, doesn't matter if it is a great team who has played a brutal schedule and a fair team who has played a weak schedule, if they have same amount of wins, they count the same

I meant that no other team in all of 2A was close to Poquoson's 25.6 other than Clarke County at 25....

What's this?

Can you explain your understanding of the power point system? I tried to research it myself, but the VHSL link seems to be unavailable....

A team gets a certain number of points for each team based upon their classification. A team gets 16 for 1a, 18 for 2a, etc for beating that team, and 4 for 1a, 6 for 2a, etc for loss. Then for a win, a team gets 2 points for each win that team has, and if they lost to a team they get 1 point for each of the wins. A 2a team beating a 2a team with a 5-5 record will receive 18 and 10 for a total of 28 points, conversely if they lost to that team they get 6 and 5 for a total of 11 points.

Then you add in the other bonus points for playing a team in a lower division of 2 points each classification. For example, a 3a school would receive 30 total points for beating a 5-5 2a team, 18 and 10 and 2 for lower classification, and would receive 30 total points for 1a 5-5 team, 16 and 10 plus 4 points for 2 classifications lower

Each team gets points for each game they play: points for W/L and bonus/rider points for your opponents' wins(SOS). The total points are then divided by the number of games playe.

The bonus points are easy to calculate. 2X each opponent's wins for teams you beat. 1x each opponent's wins to whom you lose.

Your W/L points are based on classification. If you play a team in the same classification or smaller, the points are based on your classification. If you play a team in a larger classification, the points are based on the opponent's classification. The scale is C1=4, C2=6, C3=8, C4=10, C5=12, C6=14. You get these points win or lose for every game you play. For each game you win, you get an additional 12 points.

Here is a brief hypothetical example:

C2 Buffalo Gap 3-1 beats C1 Parry McCluer 1-3 (W/L points: 18 + Bonus: 2 = 20)
C2 Buffalo Gap 3-1 beats C5 Harrisonburg 0-4 (W/L points: 24 + Bonus: 0 = 24)
C2 Buffalo Gap 3-1 loses to C1 Riverheads 4-0 (W/L points: 6 + Bonus: 4 = 10)
C2 Buffalo Gap 3-1 beats C2 Wilson Memorial 1-3 (W/L points 18 + Bonus: 2 = 20)
Total points: 20+24+10+20=74 Divided by 4 games=Rating of 18.500.

It's basic math, but you have to know the point scale for the classification and calculate each game. Corrections are welcome.
