It has been 18 years since a conference other than the SEC, ACC or Big Ten won the NCAA football championship. The ACC had to be voted out to take away their opportunity and it took overtime to shed the ever present Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas burned away any chance the Big 12 had of repeating and they were the last Big 12 team to claim the trophy in 2005. The portal, NIL opportunities and other factors have done what no football coach has been able to do in 2 decades; stop the SEC. NCAA football now counts the absolutely pathetic Colorado Buffaloes as the new shiny thing. I am going to take up pickle ball and pray that what has happened to college football does not happen to Virginia high school football. It can happen. There are powerbrokers that can corner all the top talent and shuttle them out of state to play football in Maryland again and then go score two touchdowns for Michigan and turn all of Virginia's high school football teams into the national headline grabbing Jamestown Eagles. Imagine that. Of all the great teams we have, the Jamestown Eagles grabbed the headlines. It can happen. All you have to do is say that it will never happen. Then it will happen.
