Not much to say from an Oakton perspective, except that the Cougars kept battling but they were clearly overmatched on both sides of the ball. Westfield is impressive - especially impressive in this one was quarterback Mason Scoville who threw for three touchdowns on the night and didn't throw an incompletion until the third quarter. He must have thrown a dozen times in the first half and he connected on every throw. In truth, the game was over early. Westfield blocked an Oakton punt on the game's opening possession and took over at the 14. Two short Scoville to Justin Barrow completions later and it was 7-0 less than a minute and a half into the game. By halftime, it was 31-0 after a Delaney field goal, a short plunge by Scoville, a second Scoville to Barrow touchdown pass and a 70 yard run with a recovered fumble. Oakton's best scoring opportunity came after the Cougars recovered a muffed punt on the Westfield 35 but their drive stalled on the one yard line. Westfield improves to 8-1 and closes their regular season next week at Chantilly. Oakton, now 4-5, still has a good shot at a playoff berth and would likely get one if they can beat Herndon at Oakton next week.
