Rocktown getting that first victory.

Senseless violence that cost innocent kids on two football teams the chance to play a game. Meadowbrook/Matoaca cancelled because of a stabbing at Meadowbrook that had nothing to do with football. ( I don’t disagree that they needed to cancel the game, it’s just disgusting that kids trying to do right suffer because of punks.)

How about the shellacking that Amherst put on the Blue Streaks? Those Lancers are rounding into form.

Boy, how about that GW/MV game? I would have loved to be there for that one. GW fought from behind most of the game and made the plays when they had to. Making the win more amazing is that I was told that GW had 230 yards in penalties. I don’t know for a fact that that is accurate, but if it is, that’s amazing to overcome that. It also tells us that they better fix that problem fast and in a hurry.

Kings Fork dominating a good Indian River team made me take notice.

North Stafford beating Eastern View didn’t surprise me, but I’ll use this opportunity to say, “I told you so!” Nothing bad to say about Eastern View, it’s just that this NS team might be the most improved team in the state from last year.

Phoebus easily handled their long time rival Hampton today. That’s 40 wins in a row for the Phantoms.

I’ll close with Dinwiddie defeating Thomas Dale at Thomas Dale. The Knights and Generals played this game the way you want teams to do. They put it all out there on the field and didn’t hold back. And for a rivalry of this magnitude and importance, It was played clean and fair. I believe this was the best game Dinwiddie has played this season.(That speaks to how good TD is.) Their effort against Maury was probably as good, but it just didn’t show. The Generals were so over matched against the Commodores that even their best effort was overshadowed by what I truly believe is the best team in the state this year.

The Dinwiddie gang gathered at Sibleys BBQ in Chester for our traditional pre-game meal. I highly recommend Sibleys. Great food and great service. And locally owned, which I prize very highly.

Now it’s your turn. What caught your eye enough to make mention of it?

I agree the way KF beat IR did catch my eye!

Armstrong fought all night long and took the lead vs Henrico with 30 seconds remaining for their first win in that series in a while.

3 Richmond City Schools are now 5-0. Don’t have the history books but my guess is that this is the first time in a while if ever.

Prince George took down Petersburg. That’s 2 out of the last 3 for the Royals. I thought 4 wins would be a successful first season under coach Hall and they are half way there.

Huguenot WR had 283 yards and 4 touchdowns on only 8 catches. I know it was vs James River but still impressive for.

Louisa seems to have got it rolling with the return of their 2 studs.

Caroline quietly sitting at 4-1, are positioning themselves in the 4B playoff race.

I saw the pre-season interview with the Coach at Caroline. You just got the feeling that he was someone that could get the job done.

I talked with someone at the Louisa game. Louisa made numerous procedural penalties, and did a lot of things wrong at crucial points in the game. Fortunately for them they have plenty of offensive potential and played good defense. They were playing against a weak team. If they make those mistakes against a foe of equal abilities to the Lions, it might be their downfall.

yea - back in the day they would play each other so the City schools would not have a chance for 3 undefeated. Look out next year in Class 2 as Armstrong and TJ will be dropping down. They may become as hated as JM is in hoops.

The future C2 comments are gonna be hilarious

GW did in fact have over 200 yards in penalties. I believe the final official number was 220. True, some things need to get fixed but there were also some really bad calls. Phantom-like if you know what I mean. Several seemed to have been influenced by the home sideline.

Great job by the Eagles of overcoming a ton of adversity.

Does anyone have any input on the varina
And Glen Allen football game ?
That’s a tough one to call. Both defenses are stout. GA offense has been consistent. Varina’s offensive output improved the last two weeks, but they were not playing particularly tough teams.
GA’s best game was the drubbing they put on Thomas Dale. Varina’s best game was their double OT loss to Indian River. It’s so close to call that in my minds eye the home team gets the advantage. That of course is Varina.

I have to admit I know very little about Glen Allen. When you look at the trends/stats there is very little to differentiate between these two teams. Varina has played a slightly tougher schedule, their offensive ppg and defensive ppga are equitable, so it appears we are in for a treat! A defensive treat that is.

As @BoKnowsSports said Varina has the better athletes and this may just decide things. If Varina can stop Glen Allen's powerful run game then the Blue Devils front seven can pin their ears back and go after the Jaguar QB while using 1v1 press coverage on the outside. It's a big if, but I am counting on Varina's elite defense to do just that.

I guess the huge elephant in the room is can Varina put up the points against a very good Glen Allen defense. I tend to believe Varina has found its niche and with a week off to prepare they will be ready.

Give me our Class 4 Region B brothers in a squeaker. 21-20.

GA has a very very good defense. Very underrated in terms of names. Don’t have the “stars” behind their name like Varina’s has but they fly to the ball and are very aggressive. Adam Ramadan, Gavin Gallavan, Kam Tiller, and big Jaylon Brown will all play college ball. Very formidable to come out of their region over Highland Springs and Oscar Smith. I just think they have a great mixture of offense and defense whereas Varina will have to lean on defense and pray they can score 21 on Glen Allen’s defense to win. Varina has a lot of kids going both ways whereas Glen Allen is deep and play by committee. Dallas Chavis will be the difference IMO. GA’s run game is legit. I got GA winning convincingly.

Again I am just going on yours and others post about GA. So in your opinion the Jaguars will be able to run against Varina? If that's the case then I agree with you about GA winning. Still think it will be low scoring.

I do.

1.) I don’t think Varina’s defense is as strong as last year’s. Darius Wilson will help a lot when he returns.
2.) GA’s offensive line is impressive. They pushed a very good Dale defense around.
3.) Let’s look at the numbers… Dale held Dinwiddie and Bird to a respectable 21 and 14. GA scored 28. I don’t compare scores but GA had no problems moving the ball and did a great job of extending drives and controlling TOP. I am not sure of the exact time but I do know they went on a 10+ minute drive in the second half against Dale.
4. Coaching. Just think GA is more disciplined, has better offensive execution and plays scheme football vs Varina’s out-athlete you approach

I'll have to see Glen Allen do it before I believe it. All signs point towards they should probably be the favorite in this game and I'm leaning towards them winning. But outside of Hermitage the west end schools can't seem to get over the mental hurdle of beating HSHS or Varina.

Win or lose I think this game will be a strong indicator for the rest of Varina’s season.

Can the offense show some life against a real defense when you need them to?

It was 21-13 Varina last year. I think Varina was better than they are right now and GA was a year away. Fast forward to Friday, GA is the better TEAM on paper. I think the biggest difference in talent is Varina has Myles Anderson, D1, Wyche, Bull Richardson, and Braylon Hood. They are really are the difference in Varina winning C4 and being upset by Courtland in the first round.
