I have watched a pile of video with it being so readily available now and I keep wondering who will actually make the playoffs? This is across all the regions since there have been some good play at times and other times not so much. So I open it up for discussion on who everyone thinks will make their run to at least the semis? I am a homer and nothing they have done so far tells me they won’t be there so I will say Riverheads beats WM Campbell for region B. I can’t get a feel on what Region A has and frankly Region D either. Region C will have Galax, GW and Narrows back in the mix and I think you could argue a good case for any of the three. Someone chime and and tell me why Chilhowie, JI Burton or another surprise team from SWVA will make a run? Gotta get some y’all goin on here, lol.

Sort of on topic here....can anyone verify how the State Semi’s and State Finals will be laid out. VHSL’s website has contradicting info on it. It states clearly that:

VHSL Semifinals – April 24, 2021 at higher seed based on power ratings
VHSL Finals – May 1, 2021 at TBD

However when you click on the playoff bracket, it says clearly Region A hosts Region B in the semi’s and D hosts C in the semi’s with the winner of the A/B game hosting the winner of the D/C game for the title.

Anyone in the know on which scenario it actually is? Thanks

I would be shocked if it weren’t at the higher seed. I too had questions about that but the same wording was in place in recent years and the higher seed still hosted so I suppose we will see.

That was my guess as well. The VHSL website isn’t the easiest site to find accurate and timely info. So I suppose the team with the most power points per region could host all 4 games if they run the table in that scenario.

I believe Region A only has 5 teams playing football. It may come down to who stays healthy and can avoid a COVID outbreak at their school. But don’t we already know Riverheads will win it all?

With traditional contenders sidelined, I will predict that Rappahannock comes out of Region A

Region A has 6 schools playing and from my understanding to this point all 6 will participate in the regional playoffs

1D is extremely thin this year, none of the teams are very good. Chilhowie beat Burton but lost to Marion who got embarrassed by Tazwell. Norton beat Castlewood but lost to Chilhowie. it'll likely come down to Burton and Chilhowie again but the winner will get smashed by Galax or GW, whoever wins 1C.

@NND Sports Fan are any of Rapp games available to view? I watched some of West Point and Northumberland Friday night and they had flashes of good play but couldn’t sustain it series to series. K&Q sound like they are doing it up with the young QB but I haven’t been able to watch them either.

@BigWinners I am surprised that Chilhowie has done as well as they have considering they aren’t scoring as I was expecting. That tells me their D is formidable. And what’s the deal with Burton? They looked very good at times and then appear to be “lost”. When they go with what works they impressed me but they just went away from it too easily at other times.

@offmylawn man that’s why they play the games. I think Wm Campbell will be decent and Rapp or someone from out East may knock them off before they even get to a championship game. Lots of football to be played so who knows what this season may bring. I just wanted to hear other opinions of what they were seeing.

Again I hope everyone is able to enjoy the fact these young men are able to compete. I hate watching on TV but it’s better than the spring athletes were treated last year when they had no option to play.

I think Gunz is right, only the top 4 per region make the tourney. That opening round playoff game is gone this year.

Galax plays GW this week so that might tell us a little more about region C

While I'm not certain if Region A is going to be 4 or 6 teams, there was a move afoot to petition the VHSL for an extra playoff week. That's why you don't see any April 2 games for Region A teams on the master schedule. However, I'm thinking that plan has been scrapped and somehow the region is going to assign teams opponents for that date.

I think Burton is trying to find their identity and find their best chance going forward to make noise from here on out. The rest of their schedule is not great so they may focus more on trying to find their groove since they'll likely be in control of the rest of their games.
Cant speak too much on Chilhowie but the loss to Marion was puzzling. It seems like graduation may have caught up to them a bit but with how down 1D is, even a mediocre Warriors team should be in the mix to win the region.

if I had to pick, id take Burton, I think they'll work the kinks out by end of season but honestly who knows.

I've already posted that I believe Rappahannock will win Region A. But, it seems most teams out this way are really underclass dominated therefore the competition isn't very strong. Tonight's Rapp-K&Q result should be telling.
