Re: Buddy, just stop
TimWakefield you make a good point on #2. I would say that the Wilson Fanbase is everyone's least favorite for our area (not including myself in there) and that the Riverheads football program is the most hated team/program. I don't have the stats to back it up but it seems as though the population at Wilson has more money as a whole than any of the other area schools (makes sense as the hospital is in Fishersville) and they think they are better than you. It's kind of the "teaverton" stereotype which makes outsiders see a stigma attached to the hornet fanbase. I will say this though, I like how the Wilson fanbase supports their teams. They really supported them at the cheer events and do the same for their football. I like their coaches and players too, it's just a shame that a few bad apples in the fanbase/coaches/players hurt the reputation of the entire community. I enjoy your stuff on here as well Trevor, I feel like you have been ganged up on a little bit here, and this has gotten out of hand. Riverheads football is hated simply because they are usually the top dog and everybody roots for the top team to go down, especially when they are seen as the best program in our area (based off the past 15 years).
There are a few bad apples in the Riverheads community as well (as with every fanbase) and if you were to check out the social media accounts of some of the players and the Red Pride Nation @RHSGladiators_ twitter account you may find some things that don't fit the definition of class. I saw some classless tweets after RHS defeated Wilson, and one in particular coming from a player who will remain nameless which stood out to me, that said something along the lines of "Built by the Press, beat by the best." So it happens to every team and fanbase; Lee, Gap, Draft, waynesboro and fort have them as well!
I hope Wilson goes on to win the state championship so we can get another championship for our area, and to help me in the bracket challenge!
As for the success in little league translating into success in high school: the seniors division is the one that can be the most deceiving, but if you are good in Juniors, you are likely to be competitive in varsity (not necessarily state championships). I have found that to be true over the years, but there are always exceptions as kids stop growing, parents move kids to other areas, etc. Unfortunately the competition is going down slightly in the ACQC compared to 10ish years ago, as the Spartan football league has been poaching some of the SAW kids.
I know tensions can get high on this board, and I made a fool of myself earlier this year defending my hometown team, so I know how easy it is to get fired up, but I hope this tension dies down soon so we can focus on round 3 of the playoffs where we are blessed to have some great games on deck. I think Wilson has a tough draw with Brunswick, and I would not be surprised to see them back in Salem, but I am hopeful of a Hornet victory.
As the new poster who I am thinking is from ER said, I hope you stay on the forum as well, Trevor, even if your team starts to slide a little bit, but I hope they just reload. It's good for the area to have solid teams.
