Wise Central Stops Gate City 27-26 With Missed Two-Point Conversion


With 1:46 remaining in the game, Gate City Coach Bill Houseright kept his offense on the field for the two-point conversion and the game winner. A little Halloween tricks were up Gate City’s sleeve. Quarterback Hunter Collier option pitched to Isaac Salyer. Salyer looked into the endzone for his receiver. Salyer completed the pass in the endzone and the possible game winning conversion, but the receiver was ruled out of bounds, sealing the win for the Warriors.

The Warriors broke open a 20-20 tied score at the 2:00 minute mark. Facing fourth-and-18 on the Gate City 35-yard line, Central Quarterback sophomore quarterback Dalton Mullins hit Tre Mullins on a vertical route ending in the deciding touchdown for Wise Central.


With the crowd screaming, the ensuing kickoff was returned by the Blue Devils’ Tyler Hamilton broke free and went 75-yards for the score. Having difficulties in the kicking game, Houseright relied on his offense and a trick play that almost worked.


Gate City needed the win over playoff bound Wise Central to make the post season. Now, Gate City will have to wait on other teams for some help to make the playoffs.


Dalton Mullins finished the night with 105 yards rushing and two touchdowns while also passing for 124 yards and two touchdowns. The highlight of the night will be the 35-yard pass to Tre Mullins for the win.


Gate City quarterback Hunter Collier led the Blue Devils with 81 yards rushing on 19 carries while also passing for two scores.
