I really believe in that team this year. They have been on the up & up for a while now. It’s time to kick the door in! I picked them to make the State Semis but the way they’ve started this season off it wouldn’t surprise me if they made it to the big dance.

Always made more sense for them to be in the doah. But, the doah is adding Rockbridge and Allegheny. Puts them at 5 class 3 and I would imagine Fort will be back in class 3 in the very near future and Draft is always right at the line. So the Doah will have almost primarily class 3 with the other two augusta county schools(riverheads and gap) being class 1. Would make sense for those two to join the pioneer with that district being pretty much all class 1.

Defense needs a lot of improvement if they are to make it very far. They may not have what it takes this year, but this team is very inexperienced with very few returning starters on either side of the ball. Maybe they'll find the right pieces to the puzzle and put them in the right places by the end of the year? Depth has been a major concern for me. I don't ever remember a time when Salem had so few players. A couple of injuries have highlighted this issue.

On the positive side of the ledger, the offense found another couple weapons Fri. #21 Soph Kyshead Arrington is a great RB, to complement Persinger and Soph Jordan McCadden in the back field. #11 Anthony Snead showcased his WR skills and speed Fri as well.

@BoKnowsSports, Nelson to the 'doah sounds like a good idea until you realize that Alleghany and Rockbridge are joining so the district will have 9 teams already (Riverheads, Draft, Waynesboro, Wilson, Fort, Gap, Staunton, Alleghany, and Rockbridge) starting next year.

The system needs tweaking at the least.

Northside (3-1) is improved from the last few years. Their biggest issue for making the playoffs will be their schedule. They still have Heritage, Fleming, Byrd, and Botetourt left, that they will be underdogs against. They will be favored against FC and Staunton River, but those aren't gimmes either. They have some good athletes. (Hardy and Harvey from basketball fame) They have a pretty good OL/DL (incl transfer from Salem #66 Fields) If they qualify for the playoffs they could surprise someone. I think Byrd, Botetourt, or Magna Vista will win the 3C Reg, but whoever wins they'll have an uphill battle against LCA.
