Prospect Watch All-State Privates

Since the start of the 2024 football season, I have posted prospect watch articles which highlight the top prospects I have watched in-person. From those live game performances, I create/update Rivals profiles. This is my primary criteria to create Rivals profiles.

Here, I present my Prospect Watch All-State Private team. To be eligible for the Prospect Watch, I must have watched the player live, in-person at a game I attended. If I did not see the player live, then they are not included. This also means one great performance could elevate a prospect and one non-spectacular game could leave a Power 4 off. I went thru all the writes from the games and Prospect Watch articles to create the following team.

Graham vs Strasburg

Graham -
14/26 passing 204 yds 2 TD 2 int
25 rush 140 yds 2td

Strasburg
Passing 6/21 75yds 2int
Rushing 30 rush 183 yds 1td 2 fumbles

Most of the Strasburg rushing came in 4th qtr once Graham got out of the 6 man front and went to 5 man front with 2 safety look bc of Strasburg needing to throw — keeping it In front of them at that point in the game — this is based on what I saw on film ..
what are ur thoughts ??

2025 Football

Congratulations to Phoebus High School on securing the 2024 Class 4 State Championship title. As we look ahead to the 2025 season, Division 4 is set to become even more competitive with the additions of Louisa and Lafayette, two programs bringing exceptional talent and depth to the field.

Louisa enters the division with a young, promising team, including 2-3 highly-touted 5-star recruits at wide receiver and running back. Their combination of talent and youth makes them a serious contender for years to come. Lafayette, similarly, adds strength to the division with a roster largely intact, as only 4-5 seniors are graduating. These additions undoubtedly deepen the competition and set the stage for an exciting 2025 season.

While Phoebus boasts an outstanding quarterback, who was instrumental in their championship run, they face the challenge of significant roster turnover, losing many key seniors. My question is: How will Phoebus regroup and maintain their dominance in a division that is only getting stronger?

Varina, despite some chatter after their recent performances, returns nearly all of their key players, with only 3-4 seniors graduating. Their continuity and talent make them a formidable opponent to many powerhouses, especially as they face teams like Dinwiddie, Phoebus, Huguenot and Louisa, Dinwiddie will be navigating a quarterback change after losing a great QB in 6 and the loss of critical linemen and top receivers (#2 and #4). If these teams meet, Dinwiddie will need to make serious adjustments, as the scoreline in their previous matchup may not have reflected Varina’s full potential and maybe potential spots for other teams to attack. How does Dinwiddie plan to rebuild, and can Varina capitalize on their returning talent to cement themselves as a top contender?

With Louisa County and Lafayette emerging as new threats, the power dynamics in Division 4 are shifting. Should teams across the division be worried about the rise of these two programs, and how will the traditional powerhouses respond to the challenge?

Congrats Phantoms’ fans

Nah they hadn’t ran him up the middle like that. He normally runs through a gap or on the outside.. They had him running QB blasts and he took way too many hits.
There were no gaps and you ain’t running on the outside with the way our LBs fly around. Funny thing is he took his worse hit playing defense when Bull ran thru him.

Congrats Phantoms’ fans

The thing is Varina ran Wyche like that all season. That was their game. The shots weren’t there early for him to take. After getting ran thru on defense his whole mind state probably changed. Playing him and so many other key players both ways might have to change next year, because they were gassed

I thought Varina matched up well with Phoebus. I think the biggest difference was Phoebus being significantly more prepared than Varina. I think Varina knew that they were not going to have consistent success running the football against that Phoebus front 7. They had some success but not nearly enough. They needed to get Myles Anderson and D1 Carter the ball but never ever switched it up. It was either a screen or a deep ball. No end arounds/jet sweeps, no wildcat, no mixing it up. Phoebus knew where the ball was going and their defense never really bended or broke. I thought Varina ran Kaleb Wyche entirely too much and the schemes looked very back yard football like. Thought Varina should’ve taken some shots early and that never happened. Kaleb never was put in position to settle into the game or get any rhythm going and I believe that’s why he was so off on his passes.

Graham vs Strasburg

Here we go again... First of all, Strasburg was not in man coverage.... They were in Cover 3... The same defense they have been running all season and for years now..

Graham did not dominate because of the style of offense that Strasburg runs. They dominated because they have by far the biggest, most physical & most athletic defense in 2A... Strasburg couldn't handle what Graham had up front & when that is the case it doesn't matter if you are running Flexbone or Mike Leach's Air Raid.

The only teams that seemed to be close to matching Graham athlete for athlete were Glenvar & Union. Sometimes a team is just very good and they deserve the credit. You don't have to downplay an Offense or group of coaches who made a great run to the State Title game when they were simply outmatched.

You same guys get on here every year and sing the same old song when the reality is that the majority of spread & pass happy teams don't even make the playoffs in 2A. The region championship games every year are filled with power based offenses. Every now and then you get a team with elite athletes and coaching staff that also happens to run spread and throw it (Radford & Graham).

Radford had the best QB in the state last year. This year they do not... Season didnt quite turn out the same. Jimmies & Joes have always been more important that X's & O's.
I actually agree with this. It is lost on many people just how much more talent Graham has than everyone else.

I will say that Strasburg, much like Riverheads last year, looked absolutely lost when trying to cover the pass. Graham was not a great passing team this year, by any means.

Graham vs Strasburg

Difference in game was what I eluded to earlier in the week. Phonebooth football played in the Class 1 East and Class 2 East. That's NOT a bad thing either, but the problem presents when you play a team that spreads the field and forces you to cover in space. So many teams in the East just see it very little in the season. When Strasburg lined up man on man against Graham with only 1 safety over the top when Graham was 5 wide on the first play of the football game, I said this game is Likely over. When Strasburg did it again and lined up the same way on Grahams second offensive series after Graham leading 7-0, I said this game IS over. Graham had kids running wide open.

This is the difference with Riverheads in Class 1 and Class 2. They can get away with run and defend the run because few to any Class 1 teams are Truly spreading the field, but you see where it catches them in Class 2 against Radford last year who spread the field and forced them to cover in space. Everything changes with the matchups.

It's all about matchups and Strasburg was playing against and elite run defense and Strasburgs only question mark coming in was their ability to cover in space. The matchup was a nightmare. Graham is a machine guys. A class 2 team with Class 4 talent.
